Before Spain’s game against Saudi Arabia, Spanish fans were chanting Lamine’s name and singing, “Lamine Yamal, I love you every day.”
Funny how quickly things change.
Just a few days ago, in the Egypt friendly game vs Spain, sections of those same fans were chanting, “Whoever doesn’t jump is a Muslim” — despite knowing full well that Lamine himself is Muslim. The chants reportedly left him visibly upset.
Then Spain struggled against Cape Verde without him, and suddenly everyone remembered his value. They realized that without Lamine, this team looks completely different.
But Lamine didn’t forget.
After scoring his first goal against Saudi Arabia, he celebrated by kneeling to allah, sending a message louder than any chant:
“My religion is a red line. Even if you’ve forgotten, I haven’t.”
Lamine is a young man with principles. He hasn’t forgotten his roots, his faith, or who he is, and he isn’t afraid to show it in front of the whole world.
