@TonyJuniper@devilscustard@DaveGoulson Slow in North Herts, it's the bumbles and butterflies that are so noticeably absent. Lots of swift activity though so small airborne insects doing better? Hotter weather last week seems to have helped.Take heart and keep your gardens wild. Insects bounce back fast.
@dogwooddays_nic I watch them every evening. I stand self consciously on the pavement by the drive. Do I seem odd? Should I accost passers by, explain excitedly about the swifts in my eaves and how long I waited for them or will that just bemuse them further?
@JonathanMPomroy Thanks for you blog. It has really helped me understand our colony. I have at least one swift under the eaves since 6th June. It occasionally calls out and makes little chatty "zipping" noises at other times. A lone male perhaps but it sounds like swifts will lay this late?
@dogwooddays_nic @Kate_Bradbury Thanks Nic. I'm not sure if it's too late for a successful nest. Mathematically it's possible. It's progress either way though! π
Got back from a lovely long weekend to find that "lineside vegetation management" actually means ground zero. What I would like to know from @networkrail is (a thread):
I would like some reassurance that you will be investing in (albeit tree free) biodiversity in this area of line side in the future and mitigating for loss of bird breeding habitat bat flight lines etc
