Instead of trying to earn more votes, Republican officials across the South are executing a systematic effort to dismantle Black political representation in Congress through gerrymandering.
It's time for broad reforms to end this kind of gerrymandering for good.
I was in a 2 hour briefing today on the Iran War. All the briefings are closed, because Trump can't defend this war in public.
I obviously can't disclose classified info, but you deserve to know how incoherent and incomplete these war plans are.
1/ Here's what I can share:
What should alarm us about the Epstein files isn’t just the appalling details.
It is the degree to which enormously wealthy and powerful people live by their own rules — and continue to get away with it.
It’s a club where the rules and the law don't apply. And you’re not in it.
This is a shutdown bill that’s bad for the economy—let Trump shutdown whatever he wants, hurting everyday folks to use money for tax breaks for the uber-rich. Hell no! https://t.co/x5XSBwypFL
President Trump is actively creating a trade war destroying the American economy in the stock market and in retail, gutting the federal government to give trillion dollar tax cuts to billionaires, and will distract his MAGA base with fear-mongering and a culture war as prices rise, global influence weakens and China , Iran, and Russia are empowered. Our democracy is weakened as our enemies will fill the void of world leadership. He will personally enrich himself with his Saudi deals in oil as Americans will lose wealth and power by the minute. Tonight his propaganda speech will do very little to change the facts: America is being damaged economically and globally, while his personal wealth is being increased. Within the first 100 days, he will make his base supporters poorer while taking away the resources of their government: Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, HHS, Consumer Protection, FBI, Defense………… all to give the ultra rich benefits.
Over the last 24 hours, MAGA has been ceaselessly spreading the claim that Democrats - from Susan Rice to Tony Blinken to me - pushed Zelensky to reject the minerals deal.
Total lie. Made up out of thin air. Zero sources.
1/ A short lesson how these lies spread in MAGA world.
NEWS: Sen. Ossoff is introducing a bipartisan bill to help veterans in rural Georgia get to the VA. The bill would help more veterans in rural areas get transportation to VA health facilities and access the health care benefits they’ve earned.
Here is a recap of the Ukraine situation, for those choosing to reject propaganda and continue seeking truth:
December 1994, Ukraine agrees to give up its nuclear arsenal in return for security guarantees from the US, UK, France, China and Russia.
February 2014, Russia invades and subsequently annexes Crimea, President Obama does next to nothing. War through weakness.
July 2019, Trump admin withholds $250 million in military aid to Ukraine to apply pressure to investigate alleged corruption by Hunter and Joe Biden.
February 2022, Russia invades a weakened Ukraine, world expects Zelenskyy to flee and Kyiv to fall within days. Ukrainians fight bravely for 3+ years, inflict hundreds of thousands of casualties on Russian army, weaken Putin politically.
U.S. has sent ~$70 billion in outdated military equipment to Ukraine since start of war, providing opportunity for U.S. military to modernize its weaponry. We’ve sent an additional $30+ billion in budget support, $75 billion in ancillary appropriations related to war.
~50,000 Ukrainians have died defending their homeland, protecting U.S. and Western interests in the process. Meanwhile, the U.S. President and V.P. are calling democratically-elected Zelenskyy a dictator and berating him in Oval Office in pursuit of a financial payoff.
The U.S. should be thanking Ukrainians, who have fought for our common interests with only modest financial support from a country with a ~$30 trillion GDP.
America can and will reclaim its backbone again soon, with better policy and messaging from common sense moderates.
Slava Ukraina.
For those of you listening to these clips without any context and thinking that Zelensky did anything wrong, here’s the context you’re missing:
0:00 - 0:25 – Zelensky starts off by explaining to Vance that, no, he can’t just sign a ceasefire agreement with Putin like Ukraine has done in the past—because Putin has repeatedly broken those agreements. Putin previously promised not to invade Ukraine and to release prisoners, yet he never released the prisoners and, of course, went on to invade Ukraine. For Vance to be so naïve as to think that another signature from Putin would mean anything is purely ignorant.
0:25 - 0:38 – Vance claims Zelensky is being “disrespectful” for simply explaining why he can’t trust Putin’s word. He says it’s "disrespectful" for Zelensky to "come to the Oval Office to litigate" the matter publicly. What else is he supposed to do? Just nod along and accept a deal that would set Ukraine up for failure?
0:41 - 0:46 – Vance tells Zelensky he should be thanking the President. Let’s be clear—Zelensky has already thanked Trump multiple times over the past 40 days, even after Trump blatantly lied and claimed that Ukraine started the war. So let’s talk about actual disrespect—who exactly is the one being disrespectful here?
1:03 - 1:10 – Vance accuses Zelensky of coming to the Oval Office to attack the Trump administration. But there was no attack. Zelensky was simply explaining why Trump’s idea of signing a flimsy, unenforceable deal with Russia makes no sense, given that Putin has broken almost every agreement he has ever signed. That’s not an attack on Trump—it’s a reality check.
1:15 - 1:34 – Zelensky explains that during a war, "everybody has problems, even you." Trump loses it, snapping back, "You don’t know that. Don’t tell us what we are going to feel." But let’s be real—America has absolutely felt the effects of this war.
Higher gas prices
Increased inflation
Over $100 billion in U.S. aid sent to Ukraine
Political infighting over the war
More U.S. troops stationed in Europe
Depleting U.S. weapons stockpiles
Zelensky is 100% right—but for some reason, Trump completely lost it and is now trying to paint Zelensky as the disrespectful one?
This was pure theater. It was a staged act by Trump to vilify Zelensky. The only real disrespect in that room was directed at Zelensky himself.
24% of Americans get their health insurance from Medicaid.
Seniors. Working families. Millions of kids.
Republicans voted tonight to burn Medicaid to the ground.
And for what? To fund a giant tax cut for their billionaire friends.
A moral abomination.
A defining policy battle is about to come to a head in this country. The Republican budget will force everyone - especially Congress and the White House - to make plain whether they are prepared to harm the rest of us in order to fund tax cuts for the wealthiest.
Exit polls show thankfully a disappointing /less than expected showing for the hard-right (fascist lite) AfD #GermanElections Apparently Musk and Vance’s embrace of AfD helped mobilize the opposition 👏🏿 👏🏿 thanks
I thought this country was built by
Europeans, escaping living under the rule of a King, to establish a New World governed by the people.
Currently we have a president who calls Himself.
Our King
If this is a joke,
I'm not laughing
As Trump blames Ukraine for starting war, a number of GOP senators are pushing back.
Thom Tillis told us: “Make no mistake about it, that invasion was the responsibility of one human being on the face of this planet. It was Vladimir Putin in a calculation to go through Ukraine and not stop there, to go through Moldova, to go through the Balkans, to ultimately go to the Baltic states and send the signal to China that now is the time that they can take action in the South China Sea. That's what this is about, and that's what we as members have to communicate.”
Last night, Trump promised he wouldn't touch Medicaid.
This morning, Trump endorsed the House Republican plan to slash Medicaid.
It's smoke and mirrors: Trump and Republicans are plotting to take away health care from millions of people to pay for tax breaks for billionaires.
Trump's approval rating has dropped in recent days as more Americans worry about the direction of the U.S. economy, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll. Only 44% of respondents approve of the job Trump is doing, down from 45% in a Jan 24-26 poll, and 47% in a Jan 20-21 poll.
Trump and his American oligarchs are now openly aligning themselves with Putin and his Russian oligarchs.
This Putin-Trump alliance means abandoning our allies, supporting authoritarianism and undermining our democratic traditions.
