Plenty of progress over past year with Infield & copse tree restorations.
Purple = Historical/Trees of significant age or status.
Yellow = new in-field planting or restocking of copses. (Plus restored Orchard of course) based on historical landscape design.
#MountStewartMoment
I am so angry, so sad. I can't express. Something that meant so much to so many, brimming with memories, something we all shared. A piece of our heritage. Something I wanted my son to have a chance to experience. Stolen.
We are shocked and desperately saddened to learn that the famous Sycamore Gap tree at Hadrian's Wall has been felled overnight, in what appears to be an act of vandalism.
We know just how much this iconic tree is loved locally, nationally and by everyone who has visited.
We are working with our partners to understand what has happened and what can be done.
The incident has also been reported to the police.
A short thread on exclusion in landscape decisions and narratives that feels (but almost certainly is not) deliberate.
It’s something that plays into the polarising chat about us v them & ‘bad farmers vs nature’ & is a odd ignoring of lived experience in a changing landscape ⬇️
New guest post!

@anooshka_rawden@hannahfluck@LawrenceShaw But there has been progress, thanks to the likes of you three! And I really think we are that much closer to a genuine shift - we are now a cohort which has formulated and rehearsed the arguments, there is a shift in the sector, we're putting it into practice. We can do this!
@georgiefacing@jonjalex Yes, not saying People's Assembly wasn't good, clearly impactful - but only part of the solution. And yes, real emotional "skin in the game" key. I still think connection to the past may b most powerful way to engender connection to the future, and from there to spur action.
@georgiefacing@jonjalex@fotoole Look at the past to provide evidence and provoke diff thinking, diff ways to relate to our environment. It's all connected, treasuring the inheritance we have, and the one we will leave. And make it practical 2/2
@georgiefacing@jonjalex@fotoole PPFN good but abstract still. Nature/climate spent so long shaming and excluding people. Less about making people see action helps them. More about the fact that ppl do have a positive role, responsibility, sense of stewardship, deserve to be more connected, more agency 1/2
@NatTrustArch And also insist that everyone I'm with reads all the interpretation boards on any site visited. In full. Potential for a quiz at the end of the visit.
