Dozens of students at the University of Manchester used their graduation today to show solidarity with Gaza and protest the University’s complicity in the ongoing genocide 🇵🇸🇵🇸
Land is a central concern for international leftist struggles. @TaraCanelaWight and I reflect on the #landgrabbing2024 conf and explore what the Scottish left can learn from these struggles in the @Scottishleftrev https://t.co/o7CIAp9gzy
Piece from @heathermcu and I on the need for the left to reconnect with land struggles in Scotland, taking inspiration from international movements. Reflecting on #LandGrabbing2024 conference, with a wee bit of eco-feminist and decolonial theory thrown in https://t.co/vYzbrJ5PjF
Wrote a wee thing with @heathermcu about how useless the land reform bill is, and how we can take inspiration from international movements and our own history in the fight for radical land justice
Reflecting on the @ISS_Research#landgrabbing2024 conference in Colombia with @TaraCanelaWight. Disappointed by the land reform bill, but global struggles offer an important reminder: radical land redistribution follows radical grassroots action.
Another day, another video of Israeli mobs - actively facilitated by the Israeli police and army - gleefully destroying food so that children in Gaza starve to death. And we're meant to be talking about the wording of slogans at peaceful protests on campuses.
🚨 Deportation raid happening now!
Denmilne Street,
Easterhouse, Glasgow.
Resist the Home Office; protect your neighbours! Kenmure Street time again.
Anyone who can, please get down there!

Brilliant discussions between academics & global land, agrarian & peasant struggles on the implications of land grabbing to social reproduction, financialisation & dispossession, moving past failed interactions between env and land struggles & ofc resistance #LandGrabbing2024
I joined hundreds of colleagues and students today to stand in solidarity with Palestine 🇵🇸 And we'll be out in increasing numbers till the @OfficialUoM sever ties with the Israeli arms trade and stop resourcing genocide #stoparmingisrael#FreePalestine#ceasefireInGazaNOW
The State of Israel has switched off all life support to entire 2.2 million people it illegally imprisoned 17 years ago in Gaza and are subjecting the people to continuous bombardment by land, air and sea
We are witnessing the intentional annihilation of a people.
This is @GhassanAbuSitt1, a surgeon who is currently saving the lives of Palestinians in a hospital in Gaza. He's just reported that counter terrorism police have showed up at his house in the UK and harrased his family.
Would folk be interested in attending a conference in the Highlands targeted towards land reform AND landscape scale ecological restoration/whatever we’re calling it then? (not promising anything)
@LandEthics Blaming humans also encourages an approach to conservation that is exclusionary to people. People in nature can and should be part of ecological recovery.
I wrote a blog about the dangers of colonial masculinist fantasies of wilderness in rewilding. These fantasies shape how the land and people of the Highlands and Islands are imagined and inform decisions to transform landscapes.
New guest post!
'Rewild or Re-wilderness: The dangers of colonial masculinities', by Heather Urquhart.
This post expands upon Heather's @MYBISA presentation on the topic of rewilding in the Scottish Highlands and Islands.

@LandEthics The rampant extractivism driving the climate and ecological crises is innate to colonial-capitalism not humans. Homogenising human as the problem ignores all the examples of human-nature relations where intergenerational commitments take principle for example.
