When I first opened my CDS account with Central Bank of Kenya back in 2021, the process was entirely manual.
I physically visited the CBK Kisumu branch, filled out multiple forms, then went to my commercial bank to obtain a branch manager’s verification signature. After resubmitting the documents, I waited about seven days to receive confirmation that my CDS account had been successfully activated.
When I made my first investment in government securities, I remember interacting with the then Head of Market Research at CBK Kisii, one Mr Gibson Kitavi. He was genuinely surprised that I had access to such information,there was a prevailing perception that Treasury Bills and Bonds were largely the preserve of high-net-worth, well-connected investors.
To his credit, he facilitated a seamless onboarding into the primary marketguiding me through the application and settlement process.
Fast forward to today, the introduction of DhowCSD has completely transformed market access. What was once a paper-intensive, time-consuming process is now fully digitized. You can register, participate in auctions, and manage your fixed-income portfolio directly from your phone, efficiently and in real time.
The barrier to entry has effectively been removed.
So the real question is:Why are you not allocating capital to risk-free government securities and taking advantage of these streamlined investment channels?

My first time abroad

On my first day at work, at 5pm, Michelle shows up at my work desk

“You’re the new guy. Welcome to Rotterdam!”

Then tells me it’s 5pm. People here don’t work overtime. “Let’s go have dinner!”

So I pack my laptop and off we go

She hands me her own credit card!!!

Tells me to use it everyday for all my needs. Just that I should return it and pay back when I am sorted!!

She blessed my life abroad in every possible way. At the moment that I most needed it.
