How dividends work on the 🇬🇭 Stock Market.

A dividend is a sum of money paid regularly (typically annually) by a company to its shareholders out of its profits.

To receive dividends, a shareholder has to buy the stock at least a day before the ex- dividend date announced by the company.

Ex- dividend date is a day on which a stock does not carry the value of its next dividend payment.

If you purchase a stock on its ex-dividend date or after, you will not receive the next dividend payment. Instead, the seller gets the dividend.

In 🇬🇭, Dividends come with a withholding tax rate of 8%. If your dividend is GHC 100, you will receive GHC 92 in your bank account.
