@HonestWade@bagthebagman@scott_peak@FoulTerritoryTV@BNightengale Uh...it was WIDELY reported they took out a loan in 2023 just to help cover payroll and then lowered the payroll in since. Here's one example. I like a good debate but at least have a clear picture before disputing things.

@bagthebagman@scott_peak@FoulTerritoryTV@BNightengale Maybe not this offseason but I don't know that you can say with any sense of truth they aren't losing money. I can't say they are either but the payroll went down last year for a reason. And those bad contracts are all backloaded. You do the math
@anocote@FoulTerritoryTV@BNightengale I don't know that trading Tatis is stripping down the team. It might make perfect sense given the constraints and his value. They also have destroyed their farm and need prospects.
@anocote@FoulTerritoryTV@BNightengale How do you know they aren't losing money? Honest question. They may be 2nd in attendance but don't they have a shitty TV contract and it's clear they took on too much for the market they are in? Plus, there were other articles mentioning how they went over MLB debt reqs.
@bagthebagman@scott_peak@FoulTerritoryTV@BNightengale I mean how is that inaccurate? No one is going to take on the contracts of Machado, Darvish or Boegarts. Not a chance. He's right that Tatis and Merrill are the tradeable assets who make money.
@JimRussellSD I gotta be honest. The fact that this is even a discussion is ridiculous. No player would ever walk away from $46 million. They might unofficially “retire” and work out a deferred payment plan with the team but people thinking he would just walk away from the money is delusional
@NationPadres@MLB Hey PadresNation….2 things:
1. MLB already took a look at this and found no wrong doing.
2. Every international free agent on every team has handshake deals before the signing period opens….including the ones signed by the padres the last 2 days
@D1SCHER Maybe they can’t all spend on payroll this much, but they certainly can spend a decade building a solid framework for long term success and become a desired destination like the dodgers. The dodgers have not had the highest payroll (or even close) for the majority of the decade
@loveofsports24 And hurting the game is a bit excessive. A year ago the dodgers were chokers and no one was complaining. They still may end up with the 3rd highest payroll. I do agree there needs to be a cap though….and a floor
How was your Wednesday night? Beating the Yankees makes this that much sweeter. I had tickets for game 6 in LA and I’m glad I didn’t have to use them.
Go @Dodgers !
