It’s protection for the team…not an automatic release.

@Padres @JasonLSwitzer I’d rather have Martín Maldonado than Freddy Fermin. Fermin can’t throw out runners, consistently botches ABS challenges, doesn’t hit for average, and has no power. He doesn’t excel at a single aspect of the game. He’s one of the worst players in Major League Baseball.
