Malaz, 14, holds her neighbors' son at a UNICEF-supported camp in Chad. After fleeing home in #Sudan, she ran 18+ miles, eventually crossing the border alone and connecting with neighbors from her town.
Although she feels safer, Malaz still doesn't know where her parents are.
Today I am in Adré at the Chad-Sudan border where the magnitude of the humanitarian crisis is shocking and it’s getting worse every day. @UNICEF and its partners are working tirelessly to address the urgent needs of some 260,000 Sudanese refugees fleeing the conflict in Darfur.
Many villages in Chad didn’t have enough water, even before families from conflict-torn Sudan started to pour in.
As the needs of refugees and host communities mount, this is how UNICEF is working to provide access to clean water for all.
"She told me how she saw bodies of her neighbors scattered on the street." Millions displaced by war in Sudan. @DonaigLedu of @UNICEFChad says some Sudanese are being carried to refugee camps in wheelbarrows.
In Adre, refugee families tell stories of escape and despair.
Mothers and children fleeing #Sudan live in anguish, hoping to hear from their families and waiting for humanitarian assistance.

#Chad
Horrific stories from families fleeing conflict in Sudan into Chad.
UNICEF is on the ground with water, mental health services and health supplies.
But we urgently need more funds to scale up our work for children.

Thousands of refugees fleeing the conflict in #Sudan have arrived in Adre, the border city in Easter #Chad. They are safe, but the conditions are extremely difficult. @UNICEFChad urgently needs support to support the humanitarian efforts.
"I hope to go back home as soon as possible." Assiam fled brutal violence in Cameroon to a refugee camp in Chad where she gave birth to her newborn son.
UNICEF is on the ground supporting children and their families with shelter, latrines, showers and hygiene kits.
