@TrentTelenko When you can show me a deep blue water "cheap drone", I'll agree that the LRASM is not necessary. The purpose of LRASM is to allow aircraft to engage a ship at an extended range. To my knowledge there has yet to be a "cheap drone" that can launch from CONUS and engage OCONUS
@FRHoffmann1 dictates that for ever weapon that must make it to the target area, at least four need to be launched for two to survive. Already the missile needed has been doubled. Now if the opposing air defense doesn’t perform as expected, well, we wind up with more munitions arriving. 2/2
@FRHoffmann1 It really just boils down to what the objective is and statistics. Let’s say the target must be degraded to at 50 percent functionality, and that would require two missiles. However because of the density of air defense, probability of getting to the target 1/2
@PaulAndCoffee @TrentTelenko Absolutely! I just wanted to make sure people understood that there a limitations in using radar swaths for targeting purposes. But it definitely makes things easier to narrow the search area for EO imagery.
