@seal_ya_later Thanks so much! I’ll have to look into it more, because it’s such an interesting subject, definitely not something I’d thought of before.
@SImamura0811 We’ve been talking about gentrification in another one of my classes, so I’m curious, do you think cities can revitalize areas without causing gentrification? How might that be achieved? #ENVIR495f
@Emily_Oh_157 Wow! I’m really surprised there’s not a category for food packaging or something, that always seems to be a focus when portraying plastic pollution.
@Envir495F I was thinking that coronavirus isn’t exactly “environmental” communication, so the more we focus on coronavirus the less we focus on other environmental issues. In general more discussion about it is good, as it clears up questions or misinformation.
A trend I noticed in our panel today, whether it was maintaining scientific credibility, participating in activism, or communicating uncertainty: be honest. Seems like pretty good advice to me. #envir495f#scicomm2020
While researching for my lightning talk I found out that Seattle sends any of it’s landfill trash 257 miles away to a landfill in Arlington, Oregon. This makes recycle more affordable.
I really wish cities with closer landfills were better able to utilize recycling without competition from landfills. Recycling shouldn’t have to be a “backup plan.” #ENVIR495f#Landfill#Recycle
While researching composting on Twitter I ran into a post about the Northwest Flower and Garden Festival and ended up checking it out yesterday. You can find out more @NWFGS Today’s the last day, but it still might be worth a look. #ENVIR495f
@Emily_Oh_157 @earthkrystal@IpinceKatherina I also tend to keep broken electronic devices because I don’t want to throw them away. I’m really looking forward to hearing more about recycling e-waste as well!
@questforeco I see some of my roommates throw plastic clamshells (the ones that fruit comes in) into the recycling, but I didn’t think they could be recycled, do you know?
@MelindaSkipwor1 Yes, by small scale, I did mean backyard composting. This is a great issue you brought up and it doesn’t just affect small-scale. I know when Portland introduced their compost program lots of people complained about the smell and hygiene.
I know there's a lot of problems with managing large scale compost, but less people are likely to participate in small scale composting. What do people think is the best way to integrate composting into society, large scale or small scale? #ENVIR495f#compost
@amandabai3 Nature to me is the natural world that exists on its own around us not specifically for human purposes, but not necessarily free from humans.
