@mollymcghee When immigrant parents urge kids to be a doctor/lawyer/computer science/MBA they are trying to help you get some wealth. Unfortunately, working prestige jobs in teaching/writing w/o unions doesn’t translate. Uni friends all poor when we started went into banking and are $$$ now.

@Blochead4real Bloc - has your experience been one of grime and filth? I would suggest any middle of the road restaurant… most seem clean enough- but not sure what your standards/ criteria are. You can just go to “A” grade restaurants maybe?

@Ryo_Davis @KungLab As a Mandarin speaker - I’d say don’t sweat it. Doing the j and sh thing is fine. Focus on tones, vocab and sentence construction- The pronunciation will come. Not everyone has a perfect “accent “ most Chinese people don’t either.

I have friends who had to change their names to a common English one because teachers didn’t get it right for years.I myself have never had people pronounce my name correctly- but it’s the English version anyhow which sounds nothing like toe original 🤷🏻‍♀️
