@ultrabrilliant my best guess is that it's a mix-up/lost in translation of mentions about Daijiro Morohoshi and Junji Ito's "Uzumaki (Whirl)".
Japanese often don't mention exact titles of commercial items so I imagine they said something like "that manga that sounds like 'a whirl'"🤷‍♀️
