Finally she said, “Can I tell you something without you getting upset?”
I laughed and said, “Go for it.”
She took a deep breath.
“My aunt thinks you were trying too hard.”
I actually thought she was joking.
She wasn’t.
Apparently helping too much made me seem “calculated.”
She said my aunt thought I was only being nice because I wanted everyone to like me.
I couldn’t believe it.
If I’d spent the whole trip sitting in a beach chair, they probably would’ve called me lazy.
Instead, I tried to be useful, and somehow that became suspicious.
A few weeks later, that same aunt asked if I’d be willing to help her move because I was “the only reliable young guy in the family.”
The irony wasn’t lost on me.
That trip taught me something I’ll never forget.
Some people make up their minds about you first…
Then they look for evidence to prove themselves right.
Have you ever realized there was no way to win with someone, no matter what you did?
This very obviously implies also that everybody understands the stupidity of the, “you made me vote for Trump” framing. If a particular policy platform is beyond that threshold, then maybe you choose the unstable asshole. If instead the other party moderates and their policy platform is not beyond that threshold, then maybe you don’t.
The idea that somebody making this calculation is demonstrating a lack of agency is of course absurd. Like so many current liberal arguments, it doesn’t mean anything. It’s not designed to mean anything. It’s not supposed to be explanatory or to help anybody understand the world. They just think that shouting at you that you don’t have agency is a cool insult that’s going to hurt your feelings. So that’s why they say it. They’re not using words to understand the world.
The same Bari Weiss who killed a 60 minutes segment critical of the trump administration because she has concerns about airing it without a sufficient response from the administration published a piece claiming the agent who killed Renee Good suffered internal bleeding without receiving a shred of evidence from the administration to support that claim.
The last time the Chicago Bears played the Detroit Lions, the Lions beat the Bears 52-21.
The Bears fell to 0-2, having lost 12 of their last 13 games. The Lions were defending NFC North Champs after going 15-2 in 2024.
1 year later and the Bears have since won 11 of their last 13 games, have clinched a playoff spot, and have a chance to win the NFC North while the Lions are 8-8, have been eliminated from the playoffs, and are now in last place in the division.
Ben Johnson and the Bears play Dan Campbell and the Lions next week at Soldier Field to finish up the regular season.
Indiana has adopted cutting, passing, shot-making, and creating scoring opportunities through ball movement and player movement as a winning style of play under Darian DeVries. With so many new players, I did not expect them to come together this quickly. Their win over Marquette was impressive. @IUHoosiers
He wants you to know that there is no list, but that Clinton is on it 28 times. A list created by Clinton himself, apparently, wherein he implicates himself 28 times, but it still doesn’t exist. Also, when his name DOES appear on the non-list, it’s because Comey and Clinton put it there…
