How will a pedestrianized Granville Street during the #WorldCup quickly evolve into a successful people-place EVERY day?
This week I’ve started advising the very impressive @downtownvan leadership team with planning the 7 week extension directed by City Council last Thursday.

We're proud to share that Jane Talbot, President & CEO of Downtown Van, has been recognized on @BIVnews' 2026 BC500 list in the Advocacy category.
Jane has long been a passionate champion for downtown Vancouver, working with all levels of government to advance initiatives that make the downtown core a more vibrant, welcoming, and safer place for everyone. Most recently, Jane played a leading role in delivering the Granville Pedestrian Zone, a highly successful initiative that has transformed Granville Street into the go-to destination for locals and visitors alike.
Congratulations, Jane, on this well-deserved recognition. We're proud to see your leadership and advocacy recognized once again on the BC500 list.
Every walk through the Granville Pedestrian Zone leaves me proud of Vancouver.
The energy is contagious, with thousands enjoying live music, public art, local businesses, and the excitement of the FIFA World Cup.
Yesterday, Council voted to extend this successful pedestrian zone through Labour Day so even more people can experience downtown at its best.
Vibrant, welcoming, and full of life. What a moment for our city! ⚽️🇨🇦❤️ @downtownvan@CityofVancouver@KenSimCity@Vote4ABC
Rain or shine, B.C.’s liquor laws are the same: there is no open liquor allowed outside of licenced areas and establishments. If your celebrations include alcohol, there are many venues that would be happy to serve you.
Don’t let a $230 fine ruin your night.

Thank you to Mayor @KenSimCity and Council for voting in favour of extending the Granville Street Pedestrian Zone until Labour Day Weekend 🥳 We’re excited to build on this incredible momentum in the Entertainment District and continue creating a vibrant, safe, and welcoming destination for locals and visitors alike. This is a huge win for downtown Vancouver and the Granville Street businesses that have embraced the energy and excitement of the Pedestrian Zone.
Super excited to say the Motion from @KenSimCity & I to extend the Granville Pedestrian Zone with @downtownvan through to Labour Day weekend passed! Looking forward to the next wave of Summer fun post FIFA. Great step in our planned work to revitalize and pedestrianize Granville.

This summer, we’ve partnered with the @CityofVancouver to transform Granville Street into a people-first corridor spanning five blocks from W Georgia Street to Davie Street.
The City of Vancouver is inviting you to share your feedback on your experience so far. Your input will help shape the long-term vision for the Granville Plan, as well as potential future pedestrian zones on Granville Street and across the city.
The survey takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete and will be open until Sunday, July 19, 2026.

Heading downtown to celebrate the World Cup? #VPD Inspector Erin Roulston has an important reminder about where you can -- and can’t -- enjoy an adult beverage.

God damn this tournament has Vancouver feeling like 2010 again.
Hopeful. Alive. Like the city remembers what it can be when we actually let people gather, celebrate, and believe in something bigger.
We had that momentum after the Olympics and we let too much of it slip away. This time, let’s not.
Sports bring people together. Big events bring cities to life. Vancouver has the bones, the beauty, and the people to be one of the great cities in the world.
Save the Caps. Back the MLB bid. More festivals. More patios. More reasons to be downtown and celebrate as a city.
Let’s stop governing Vancouver like it’s 1965 and start acting like the city we all know this place can become
Drivers will no longer be able to cross Granville Street at Smithe and Nelson, as these intersections have now been closed to all vehicle traffic due to crowd sizes in the Granville Street pedestrian zone.
Drivers will be diverted to Howe and Seymour. Expect delays in the area and choose alternate routes. If you are coming downtown, please consider taking transit.

Am I dreaming or is this actually Vancouver?!
After 10pm on a Monday, and people are having … fun? OUTSIDE?
Hosting the World Cup has this city realizing its full potential.
It was great to see the Granville Street Pedestrian Zone packed and ready to welcome soccer fans from our city and across the world.
