If you are at all interested in the role of the local church in world mission, I'd love it if you would take a moment to 'expand' this tweet and have a think whether this is something you'd like to be involved in...
Later this month @OakHillLondon is hosting two events related to mobilising, sending, and supporting mission partners well within/from the local church.
We've found over many years this is one of those tasks that is so easily marginalised in the busy lives of local churches and their leaders, but when done well is a joy-giving, church-growing, God-glorifying, discipleship-enhancing, and Christ-honouring thing to do.
We're pleased to be welcoming guest speakers Bradley Bell (@bradleyrbell) and Larry McCrary (@LarryMcCrary) from US-based organisation The Upstream Collective (@TheUpstreamC).
Brad and Larry have many years of experience as missionaries, pastors, and mission thinkers. I personally have found their seminars, podcasts, books, articles, and conversations to be profoundly helpful and impactful.
A. Sending God, Sent Church
Wed 15th October, 7:30–9:00pm, (in person & online)
This evening seminar will help us dig into one of the most important truths for local church life today: that the God we worship is a sending God, and therefore the church he has called is a sent church. How should that shape the everyday life of congregations and what does it mean for the way we encourage, prepare, and support those who are sent out from among us?
B. Reinvigorating Global Mission in the Local Church
Thurs 16th October, 10:00am–1:00pm, (in person & online)
The following day Brad and Larry will lead us in a longer, interactive seminar especially aimed at those with leadership responsibilities in churches...pastors, elders, vicars, mission committee leaders etc. The focus will be on how our churches can grow in mobilising, training, supporting, and sending mission partners in ways that bless both the global church and our own congregations. They will walk us through a practical, field-tested framework for sending, rooted firmly in Scripture and sharpened through years of global and local church ministry.
Please note both events are free, and take place in-person here at Oak Hill, and on Zoom.
We invite you to one or both of these events, but also ask whether there are those in your churches/networks/circles who would be blessed by participating.

We'd be delighted to welcome you, and we hope these events will prompt renewed excitement for participating as local churches in God's glorious gospel purposes worldwide!
VERY excited...

Pew Research (@pewresearch) just published their largest religious survey ever (37,000N mixed methods) in a 393 page report this morning.
Here is a LONG thread gleaning some of the most important insights for ministry leaders.
The first edition of the book remains very valuable, but I look forward to seeing how Chris engages with the literature on mission and 'missional hermeneutics' published since 2006. This book will continue to be essential reading for students of mission.
I am excited to see the forthcoming (October 2025) publication of the second edition of Chris Wright's *The Mission of God* announced.

Dirk Jongkind and I recently recorded an 8-episode podcast series on New Testament manuscripts.
The series is aimed at the lay level, so we don’t go into great detail and don’t chase down all the current academic debates (no take down of the CBGM, sorry!)
Can We Trust the Gospels? by Peter Williams is FREE! 🏆
This book is incredible, so please share the link with all your friends. Just sign up for TGC's newsletter, and you'll be golden.
