@MattWalshBlog I’d take a cash settlement of what I paid in plus compound interest based on yearly S&P gains. Even if it turned out to be less than current monthly benefits, it would be undeniably fair, even generous.
@IVMiles The Holy Spirit is fully capable of raising up the glorious Bride without spot or wrinkle—with many different institutional forms. As for me, I prefer denominational affiliation. But it’s not perfect either. And that’s why there isn’t just one institutional church.
@simongerman600 The question is whether the left will moderate to correct itself. Peaceful transfers of power between centrists is not a bad thing. Successive radical swings back and forth are damaging. The right succeeds by pushing the Overton Window (and similar measures) rightward.
@piperthesniper You will find highly intellectual believers in the Church who understand your journey as they have made the trip themselves. The Holy Spirit of God is at work in you, drawing you toward faith. It’s not just a reaction to societal or civilizational trends. God is involved.
@alamocares We rented today at the STL airport and were so impressed with Patricia. She was friendly, professional, efficient & when the car she gave us turned out to have a small issue to resolve, she quickly drove a new car to us to replace it. Great car. Great CARE!
They used to ship the most important ID book an American owns like a late notice from the IRS.
Bent corners. Smeared ink. Envelope that looked like it lost a fight with a sorting machine.
Secretary Rubio just ended that.
New U.S. passports will arrive in gold-and-white packaging, the kind of presentation that says this is not junk. This is your name, your citizenship, and the seal of the United States.
Rubio: “For something as important and dignified as the U.S. passport, it will arrive the way you would expect it to.”
That’s not wrapping paper. That’s national self-respect.
A country that treats its passport like a receipt will be treated like a receipt. A country that delivers it like a treasure remembers what it is.
Exceptionalism is not a speech. Sometimes it is a box that finally looks like the country inside it.
@roddreher To be fair, we don’t sell the full package to foreign countries. Selling them inferior versions of our weapons not only earns money for us, but guarantees that a potential enemy has inferior weapons systems.
I created two indexes of religious behavior.
One is private acts like reading holy texts, reading devotionals, watching services online.
The other is social acts like attending in person worship, attending small groups, and speaking to others about religion.
No matter how high one scores on the private dimension, happiness doesn't change at all.
But as social religious behavior increases, so does self-reported happiness.
@roddreher This piece tars the Trumps with a very broad brush and really overwrought rhetoric. It’s not worthy of a person of Rusty Reno‘s intellect. He can make much better arguments than this. Maybe they have illegitimately enriched themselves. I didn’t see any evidence in the article.
