The weirdness of our era is that today’s fascists couldn’t even bully on the playground. They’re all a bunch of dorky losers. And yet the movement marches on.
What's becoming eminently clear from watching far right movements around the world — and re-reading Arendt — this kind of is what fascism is. The bullies on the playground and their opportunist hangers-on. Fascism is what happens when moral development stalls out there and then social conditions arise that we put said people in charge.
The Russian treasury reportedly ran out of cash in its main budgetary account in April and was forced to suddenly cut spending - Bloomberg
The austerity plan cut non-military and unprotected spending by over 35%, crippling Russian infrastructure spending.
IMO, unless/until Russia starts another large round of mobilization, I dont think this is plausible, or something to really worry about.
But Ukraine should be continuously improving defenses along the border/frontline anyway.
“A former military officer now working for a navy contracting company, who has been briefed on the shortfalls, said: ‘They’re fucked. They shot all their weapons; they trashed all their ships; they ran out of their money.’”

Short of seeing the text, I would take this as the definitive version of what occurred. In her long career in public service, I’ve never heard anyone call Janice Charette a liar, while just about everyone says that about Howard Lutnick.
Sometimes it's hard to pin down what 'bad baseball' looks like.
Standing dead still with the ball in your glove and facing away from a runner sliding into home behind your back is a pretty good example.
Russia has shifted to a new air terror tactic in recent days – hitting Kyiv and other cities in small drone waves every 30–60 minutes around the clock.
Retired Major Hetman warns alerts could last weeks with no all-clear at all, as Russia sends two or three drones every few hours.
Kyiv is now under its ninth air raid alert of the day, with jet drones approaching again. Yesterday the capital saw 13 alerts totaling 14 hours.
The near-constant alerts are forcing shopping centers, restaurants, and stores to halt operations, largely paralyzing public transport and rail. Some intercity trains are already running more than 13 hours late.
Are Ontario and Quebec expecting to see production and exports grow to record levels in the affected industries? And are Ontario and Quebec expecting massive increases in government revenue and fiscal capacity? No? Because that's what happened in AB from 2015 to 2025.
Most likely, these are the impacts of KAB glide bombs near a Ukrainian bunker.
What is interesting is the bunker itself — it is made of reinforced concrete and protected by gabions, making it a fairly substantial structure.
I hate this shit from Americans. "Accidentally." He won a plurality of the vote after attempting an insurrection. Trump is an expression of something very dark in the American soul. Until you address that, we'll keep our distance. We're already finding new allies.
Every few months, one of the two sides comes up with innovations that change the balance of power, up to a point. Russia’s recent introduction of Banderol is one of those turns.
Kyrylo Budanov: "Unfortunately, we have to accept it [mobilization] as it is. We cannot do otherwise. We have to find the courage and honestly say: we cannot mobilize fewer than 30,000 people a month. This is the minimum number needed to maintain what we have."
