Hello friends. Just reposting an essay I wrote more than a year ago which explores the significance of our unicorn meme. Who doesn’t love a unicorn? The significance of the unicorn meme: Memes are powerful tools of culture and communication. They tap into universal feelings, emotions, and ideas that are part of our shared human experience. Memes speak to us in a visual language, which the human brain can process faster than text. In a digital age where attention spans are short, memes speak volumes in a single glance—shaping how we connect and make sense of the world. Social media has allowed memes to thrive and become vehicles for rapidly spreading culture and opinion. Through online communities including cryptocurrency projects, memes help to create a sense of belonging and are helping to foster community amid a global pandemic of isolation and loneliness. The unicorn and its role as the $UFD meme resonates deeply within us and has galvanized our community because of the symbolism and meaning attached to this enduring and enchanting mystical creature across many cultures and throughout history. The unicorn has long symbolized the mysterious, unreachable, aspirational. Its elusive nature made it a metaphor for the quest for spiritual or inner truth. The unicorn represents that which is rare, beautiful, and nearly impossible to attain. The unicorn’s influence spans centuries, continents, and artistic mediums, and has evolved with time. Depictions of unicorns can be found in both Eastern and Western culture which speaks to the universality of the symbol and meme. In Chinese mythology, a unicorn-like creature, “Qilin” is is considered an omen of peace and prosperity. In Indian mythology, unicorn-like animals appear in some Indus Valley Civilization seals dating back to 2500 BC. In medieval Europe, unicorns were often associated with nobility and power. Their horns were believed to possess magical properties, like detecting poison or curing diseases. Kings and aristocrats would pay immense sums for what they believed were unicorn horns (often actually narwhal tusks !) as a symbol of their power and divine right to rule. The unicorn appears on the Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom where the unicorn appears alongside the lion, representing Scotland and England. The unicorn is depicted in chains because in legends, unicorns were considered so powerful they needed to be restrained. Today, the unicorn represents individuality and uniqueness. To say “You are a unicorn” means you are one of a kind. It implies the unique attributes of pride, imagination, and creativity. In business, a “unicorn” company refers to a startup valued at over $1 billion—rare and valuable. The $UFD meme is multidimensional. Through the concept of “unicorn fart dust”, the meme cleverly and humorously conveys the idea that compared with investments in physical gold and silver, stocks, bonds, and virtual assets like cryptocurrency are illusory and imaginary. The meme also incorporates a hash meme #GoodAttractsGOOD which imbues the community with its own credo and mantra focused on spreading kindness, acts of charity and benevolence, and valuing honesty and integrity- essential ingredients for the long term success and adoption of cryptocurrency. @BasementRon himself has become a meme, personifying those virtues which are sorely lacking in the crypto space which is plagued by corruption, dishonesty, and unscrupulous anonymous actors. His image and persona have become the representation of honesty and transparency. @Ledger and @Moonpay recognized the power of @BasementRon as a meme representing their brand when they endorsed him and the $UFD community. The unicorn remains a powerful cultural symbol that has become a modern emblem of uniqueness, freedom, and imagination. Riding on the back of the symbol of the unicorn, $UFD has secured it’s permanent place in the crypto landscape.
