Thank you to Prof Sonja McIlfatrick and Dr Esther Beck for inviting me to give the opening remarks at the Palliative Care Key worker conference in the Ulster University. So great to hear from many key speakers in the area of PEOLC including Diane Walker and Deirdre Cunningham. The Living Matters Dying Matters strategy 2010-2015 implementation steering group which I proudly chaired in the PHA continues to implement the recommendations. Lack of funding and challenges with recruitment and retention in district nursing being significant issues. Sinn Fein will continue to advocate for a fully funded palliative care service so all individuals receive the best care in the setting of their choice in their final period of life.
