Happy International Day of Families.
Families are where children first learn care, trust, and hope. Supporting families means supporting children’s learning, wellbeing, and future.
Let’s celebrate families today, and keep strengthening the ecosystems around every child.
Strong #familyengagement happens when schools connect families to classroom learning in practical, sustainable ways. #InternationalDayofFamilies is a reminder that families are not separate from student learning. They're part of the instructional core. https://t.co/eqVJMy8LEP
“Disengaged parents” only exist when educators look outward, seeing the problem as resting with families, not seeing ourselves as part of it. When we look inward at ourselves instead, we see “parents with whom we do not yet have a relationship.” Now, there are things we can do.
Family engagement isn’t extra. It’s essential.
New research from 4,000 schools found stronger family engagement was linked to better attendance, lower chronic absenteeism, and stronger academic outcomes, even after controlling for poverty.

Most districts say family engagement matters, but it still sits outside teaching & learning. Research links family–school partnership to gains in reading, math, & attendance. What would make families true instructional partners? https://t.co/JTMUksozVQ #FamilyEngagement
Strong family-school partnerships are linked to higher student achievement. A new report from @bealearninghero, @TNTP, and @karen_mapp highlights “Bright Spot” schools and the specific engagement practices connected to outlier academic outcomes. #TheEngagementAdvantage

"There is no questioning that parents and families are a child’s first and most important teachers. Family involvement with their children’s education will always be one of the largest drivers of success."
"When schools communicate with respect and challenge deficit thinking, families become collaborators in learning, not spectators invited only when convenient."
Happy to share that our volume The Role of Social Inequality in Parent Engagement: From Inequality to Social Justice in Education has now been published https://t.co/zgegODGLIt Immensely grateful to authors of 16 chapters for their excellent contribution!
"Traditional, haphazard #FamilyEngagement efforts are not moving the needle. It’s not the kind of engagement that levels the playing field and involves families having an authentic say in what’s happening in schools. And they don’t help teachers reimagine their classrooms in more equitable ways."

You’ve got activity. Now build agency.
A newsletter isn’t a relationship. A pizza night isn’t partnership. A survey isn’t voice.
Real engagement starts when families help design the work, not just attend it.
Let’s reimagine engagement together.
