“Disengaged parents” only exist when educators look outward, seeing the problem as resting with families, not seeing ourselves as part of it. When we look inward at ourselves instead, we see “parents with whom we do not yet have a relationship.” Now, there are things we can do.
Parental engagement is built, not wished for: listening, trust, shared decision-making, inclusion, and routines that last.
