A Tiktok video by two Chinese is taking the internet by storm, and rightly so. The video mimics the Wagah border drill, a spectacle that has been happening since 1959 and becoming more like a farce every day. What passes for a military drill is actually a circus. It's not wrong when Pakistani Muslims call us Hindus' baniya' because circus is purely for generating revenue, each year, with more foolishness added to attract tourists. I don't suggest stopping it but at least making it look military. Similar stupidity can also be seen at Hussainiwala border. I had a funny experience myself: I was sitting there watching on the steps, and the BSF cheerleader havildar, who was making people say' Bharat Mata ki Jai, ' found me silent and not joining his chorus. He said, "तुम मे देशभक्ति नहीं ह," and I said what the f....k. I was just back from my RR tenure in the thick of militancy. Something needs to be done.

From almost the same start line when India became Independent, states in the South and in the North have developed at a very different pace, leading to a huge divergence not just in population, but the metrics of health, education and economic development.

The delimitation exercise threatens to intensify India's South-North divide.
The southern states are concerned that increasing Centralisation threatens state autonomy to formulate and implement the very policies that have put the southern states relatively far ahead in terms of human development indices.
Even as there is politically heated conversation about the Centre dictating policy by increasingly controlling the purse strings, the Southern states are concerned that the exercise of delimitation of constituencies is going to curtail their political voice.

The southern states are contributing much more to the Central kitty than they receive but they may ironically end up with their political voice weakened.

Should parliamentary representation continue to be linked primarily to population? Why should the South be punished for successfully implementing a policy advocated by the Union government?
