Montwood High School is the third school in the Socorro ISD and the first high school in West Texas to earn the National Certificate for STEM Excellence (NCSE) from the National Institute for STEM Education (NISE). This certification recognizes schools for their commitment to evidence-based STEM teaching strategies, making Montwood one of only 16 high schools nationwide to achieve this distinction. Through the College of Education's Miner Teacher Residency program, students are paired with a mentor at a local school for a full year of intensive hands-on learning to become high-quality teachers.
