At what point are we going to hold airlines accountable for how atrocious they’ve become in the last 2 years?

Last night, my flight out of JFK got cancelled at 10pm, just 20 minutes before scheduled boarding.

There were no more flights to my destination that night. It ended up taking 2.5 hours to speak to a @Delta agent, which meant if I wanted to sleep anywhere other than sitting in the airport, I had to book somewhere and hope it’s one of the seedy motels they offer vouchers for. Of course, they wouldn’t have allowed me to apply it retroactively anyway.

When I finally got ahold of a @Delta agent they told me the “best they could do” is a flight with a layover on Tuesday afternoon (2 days later) despite me asking for any flights out of JFK or LGA to BUF, ROC, or SYR.

To get home today, I had to take a $220 Uber from JFK to a hotel near EWR at 1:30am, book a $300 flight out of EWR, and a $234 hotel room to sleep for 3.5 hours. Then, a $40 Uber to EWR this morning.

That is approximately $800 I’ll never see again.

When I got to EWR, I found people crying and cots with little kids sleeping all over the terminal from where @United cancelled several flights the night before.

None of these cancelations were weather related, and I still don’t have an explanation from Delta about why it was cancelled.

As I write this tweet, I’m sitting at the gate where my 8:45am flight was just delayed for a second time - again, with no explanation.

Somebody. Do. Something. @SenMarkey @SenBlumenthal pass the FAIR Fees Act and stop this nonsense.
