Yet another cold day in which UK depends on gas to generate almost 50% of our electricity, with wind managing only 12%. We’re importing 17% from various European neighbours, almost half of that from France (we’d better hope its aging nuclear stations hold up this winter), contributing to our perennial balance of payments deficit.
Plus — so much for Miliband’s mission to banish fossil fuels and lead us to energy independence through renewables.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves is describing her China trip as a 'significant milestone' in re-engagement with Beijing, saying she has agreed deals worth £600m to the UK economy. If that’s it, it wasn’t worth the journey.
For China it’s not even small change. It’s not that much for UK either — we’re a £2.7 trillion plus economy!
And it’s £600m over five years. So a piddling £120m a year. The NHS spends that of a morning.
These things are always settled in advance. If that is truly all that was on offer she should never have gone. Unless the full picture has yet to be revealed, she really has come back empty handed.

Seeing #BritishAirways copping, rightly, a lot of heat for their tier points changes. Problem is that BA still behaves like it provides a premium service. It hasn’t for years. Been Ryanair with better uniforms for at least a decade.
