Excited to announce that our college textbook, Anatomy & Physiology 11th ed., has been honored with the prestigious 2025 Textbook & Academic Authors Association (TAA) McGuffey Longevity Award!

A textbook revision is often described as an “update.” That word seems much too weak for what sometimes happens behind the scenes. Four textbook authors share the story behind the 12th edition of Anatomy & Physiology released on September 15, 2026. https://t.co/4piZXYNhfA
Echidnas are a difficult animal to breed in captivity, but scientists in Sydney have now managed it, which could improve our understanding of the evolution of pregnancy in mammals https://t.co/R8MILC0eD4
Explain to me how this TikTok’r gets it and “public health experts” don’t. MDs don’t.

Shout out to @michael_hoerger for breaking through to the younger generation.
h/t @sasswashere for alerting me to this most excellent video.
@KRompolski @amandameyerphd I agree that we'd all face a backlash if we don't encourage feedback from students. And evaluations are easy to administer. Of course, there are better options for that—but aren't "easy."
@KRompolski @amandameyerphd Arghh, the student-as-customer problem! 🤦♂️Because the open-ended part invites harm, I agree with removing it. But the other parts don't work well, either. Often, they're not the right questions—perhaps because they are used across all courses & disciplines & course formats.
@KRompolski @amandameyerphd I don't know if I'm more amused or appalled that we ask students w/ no training or experience as college educators to make judgments about professional instructors. Judgments that become part of faculty records, with little else in the record to give a more complete account.

Great Q from one of my IMED1001 students this w'end:
Q. Why is the skin on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet lighter in colour?
A. Dermal fibroblasts in these areas produce higher levels of Dickkopf 1 which down-regulates melanocyte proliferation & melanin synthesis.
@burhanco2@JoJoFromJerz The secret is using extra virgin olive oil with a pat of real butter to cook it. Tastes different than theater popcorn, though. Way better, I think.
@MotionDoc@HumanAandPSoc@theAPprofessor@wendyriggs47 In https://t.co/BYHS41KWg9 we use the version from Terminologia Anatomica: subendocardial branches. Not much better…but every syllable avoided is a step in the right direction, eh?
