✨Welcome to the 'Sea to Sky Summit' on Organic & Bioorganic Chemistry!✨
We’re excited to launch the official Twitter(X)-page for a student-led chemistry conference bringing together leading researchers, BC-based faculty, and industrial scientists for an immersive weekend at the frontiers of synthetic organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and chemical biology.
Set against the stunning backdrop of the Sea-to-Sky corridor, the Summit will take place at Capilano University in Squamish, BC — a retreat-style setting surrounded by mountains, forests, and world-class trails. It’s the perfect environment for focused science, meaningful conversations, and building lasting connections across academia and industry.
Our scientific program will highlight advances in:
🔬 Small-molecule & natural product synthesis
⚗️ Catalyst and reaction design
🧠 Mechanistic discovery
🧬 Chemical biology & translational research
Follow along for speaker announcements, program highlights, and behind-the-scenes updates as we build a stronger network of organic chemists across British Columbia. We can’t wait to share what’s ahead!

We squander too much of our free time feeling guilty that we’re not working.
In 1 of every 7 moments of fun and relaxation, people feel bad that they're not being “productive”—robbing themselves of joy and rejuvenation.
Leisure is not a bug. It’s a feature of a good life.
Don't miss the ACS Women Chemists Committee's ACS President-recommended symposium, "Historical Contributions of Chemistry for All," at ACS Fall 2026! Join us August 23 for an afternoon of engaging speakers and chemical history.
Moderna’s mRNA vaccine combined with Merck’s immunotherapy Keytruda succeeded in a late-stage trial for skin cancer, the companies said, sending shares of the vaccine maker up 60% in premarket trading. https://t.co/AbE55DcOOj
A personalized mRNA cancer vaccine has succeeded in a Phase 3 trial for melanoma.
It uses the same fundamental mRNA platform as the COVID vaccines and could open an entirely new chapter in cancer treatment.
This is why we fund mRNA technology research.
The mRNA vaccine success vs melanoma in a Phase definitive 3 randomized trial today is on top of signs of success for personalized mRNA neoantigen vaccines vs pancreatic cancer, triple negative breast cancer, and non-small cell lung cancer https://t.co/cv4iXW11mw
I have to say, when Merck called me last night with the mRNA cancer vaccine news (embargoed, of course), I literally yelped in reaction.
Consider this: Between this spring's Revolution Medicines success with a KRAS-targeted drug and now Merck and Moderna's success with an mRNA neoantigen vaccine, 2026 will go down as one of the most consequential years in cancer treatment, ever.
Incredible.
In collaboration with @moderna_tx, we’re excited to share the first positive Phase 3 topline results for our investigational individualized neoantigen therapy (INT) in combination with our company’s immunotherapy in the adjuvant setting for certain patients with completely resected stage IIB-IV #melanoma: https://t.co/DgmBU78TF2
PSA: Cancer is not one disease. It is more than 200 distinct diseases, all with different causes, biology and mechanisms. Scientists who study cancer rarely talk about “curing cancer” because it’s nothing more than an empty slogan.

I get that some people argue measles and chickenpox aren’t that bad because they had them as a child and came through just fine. It’s an extremely common argument and I hear it all the time.
And that’s great! For them.
What we fail to acknowledge is that recovering from an infection doesn’t always mean the virus is done.
Because viruses can continue to be vicious. And it is the nature of its invisibility that can make it difficult to convince people the risk is in fact real.
Measles can erase immune memory for months or years. It can also cause a fatal neurological disease years later.
The chickenpox virus remains dormant in nerve cells and resurface later as shingles, causing persistent nerve pain and damage.
HPV can cause 6 different types of cancer in both men and women.
Hepatitis viruses can cause cirrhosis and liver cancer.
Polio can produce new and progressive weakness decades after recovery.
COVID can cause chronic illness affecting multiple organ systems.
The point is that we sometimes don’t see the consequences of an infection until months or years later. Even then, we probably fail to connect them to the original infection.
So yes - some of us are lucky enough to come through unscathed - many however are not.
Vaccines are among the most thoroughly studied, effective tools we have to protect children from serious vaccine-preventable diseases. Decisions about how and when vaccines are used should be driven by rigorous scientific evidence, patient safety, and independent medical and public health expertise. Altering a proven vaccination schedule without credible evidence risks weakening public confidence and putting children’s health at risk.
If you have questions about vaccines, talk to your child’s physician. Putting our children’s health at risk is not an option

When it comes to your children’s health, listen to doctors.
Not a president who once told Americans to inject bleach.
The American Academy of Pediatrics’ immunization recommendations have not changed.
Vaccines save lives.
Doctors know it. Scientists know it. Decades of research has proven it. And millions more children are alive and healthy as a result.
When public health guidance strays from scientific evidence, it creates confusion, erodes trust in life-saving innovations, and makes it harder for families to access the care they need.
We should never let politics stand in the way of medical care. Especially when it comes to our kids.
I’ve seen it, it’s not good news, lots of the same BS gaslighting MAHA pseudoscience rhetoric HHS has been using these last 18 months + unrealistic and nonsensical demands that will further reduce vaccine access and uptake. And of course none of it based in science. Measles has already returned, and we should expect congenital rubella syndrome to follow, pertussis also at risk, and even polio wouldn’t surprise me
