@MickLaSalle Not sure yesterday's tweet arrived . . . I just want to say (again) that your recent article in "Datebook" on the lawsuit re. Zeffirelli's film version of Romeo and Juliet was outstanding.

@MickLaSalle Thank you for your fascinating, persuasive article in yesterday's SFChronicle on the lawsuit resulting from Zeffirelli's "Romeo and Juliet." Your conclusion is esp. stunning.

@bariweiss@ShellenbergerMD @kerr_vernon Will read the piece, but am inclined to say, "Bad ideas when they become fashionable are almost impossible to get rid of."
@VROUW@WillemBisseling If you're not familiar with it, read a brilliant book by J.P. Guepin, Weg Met De Boheme, a kind of love song to the bourgeois lifestyle.

@Docstockk@bariweiss@VernonAndOn I've sat through many a graduation where the speaker says (with an air of deep originality), "Follow Your Dream!" Usually a very bad idea. Think of the people whose dreams have wrecked their lives.
@kerr_vernon THE gap between left and right remains alarmingly high, but I remain optimistic about America, because of its dynamism and its relatively good-natured culture.
@kerr_vernon Surely the answer is not that we will have an honest and virtuous government but that some governments are more honest and virtuous than others.
@HaraldDoornbos@wierdduk @VernonKerr @MiriamWesselink 1. When I express my admiration for Pres. Macron's seventeen phone calls with Putin, my friends lecture me on how he's up for reelection (i.e., doing it for his own benefit). Don't they not know about MIXED MOTIVES?
@kerr_vernon Isn't it simpler than we sometimes think? A quiet, affectionate love of home and country is good and healthy, while an inflamed and exaggerated belief in the superiority of one's country over all others is not. The reprimanding teacher should've pointed this out.
@kerr_vernon @papaverqueen What an opportunity for some self-promotion: I'm still alive (though not exactly kicking). Please read my books, all available on Amazon.
@kerr_vernon @MiriamWesselink@sjleinbach Just yesterday I was telling some friends that my brother and I as kids spoke of 'home improvements' as "torturing the house."
And just this morning I muttered to myself, "Het komt nooit meer goed."
So Vern has a point.
@kerr_vernon Vern's question is an important one and shouldn't be dismissed. There may be certain proposals that might work toward an exit from this tragic, unnecessary, pointless war.
@LDingenouts @wierdduk I hope it was explained to him that it's not his fault, that no sane person would think he's in any way culpable -- and perhaps, depending on his age, a little more about how such wars break out and what's involved. . . @MiriamWesselink @kerr_vernon
@kerr_vernon Your writing is NOT stuffy and NOT convoluted, but at times illogical. Perfect example can be found in this Tweet: You turn a criticism of your work into a self-compliment.
A student once said to me, "My writing isn't well organized because I'm much too creative."
@kerr_vernon @DanHogg1 @RonFilipkowski BAJANS are very popular in the Caribbean, or were anyway in my time. They have a reputation everywhere for competence, including in the US. They also have great writers like Paule Marshall.
@kerr_vernon RT if you agree. I am full of admiration for the President of France. It doesn't matter what Macron's motive is -- he serves the cause of peace. "Blessed Are the Peacemakers." (And btw, anyone who thinks such conversations are easy is wrong.)
