In the national interest, we will not oppose for the sake of it.
But when we disagree with the Government, it is our responsibility as the Opposition to say so.
My response to the King’s Speech 👇
4/4 PS there was quite a lot of coverage of my speech when the result was announced and of the Hunt family leaving Downing Street for the last time. I actually had two speeches prepared - for winning or losing - exactly as I did when I was first elected in 2005. For those who are interested this is what I said:
What is the worst case scenario here?
"Oh no, we nailed the solar, wind, and long-term-storage ramp up and therefore the billions invested in fission plants have merely led to [checks notes] superabundant, ultra-cheap, diversified, domestically-produced energy."
Big year for elections. I've started writing about polls and politics again, this time on Substack:

EXC: A&Es not being overwhelmed by ‘low acuity’ patients, NHS England review finds
NHSE expected 20-40% of A&E attends to be patients who could be seen elsewhere. But figure was just 4%

#OnThisDay 1976: A Wycombe footpath with the right of public access allowed locals to traipse through Mr and Mrs Hall’s flowerbed, through gaps knocked through their garden wall, and into the lounge of Mr and Mrs Dunn. Inevitably, it became a council matter.
This is a paper I post every six months as it is worth rereading; the 18 reasons complex systems fail.
Complex systems fail for complex reasons, and only adaption & learning by organizations, as well as individual "actions on the sharp end" keep us safe. https://t.co/pnNlFLvno1
Good thread about the fallacy of “humans in the loop” model of AI. Particularly pertinent to radiologists. Basically screening for AI errors means constant vigilance, which is impractical & defeats the purpose of automation h/t @ScottTruhlar
@DHCNIO Thank you so much for the opportunity and platform. Its been one fun Monday ! 😜
Either DM me on twitter or LinkedIN (Sophie Brooks) and make sure you give @lister_app a follow!
@sophie_brooks1@DHCNIO@lister_app Completely agree. I found the first step (deciding to innovate) is the hardest - but you've just got to get started. Clinicians (as Sophie demonstrates!) start with a great skillset for problem solving and maintaining relationships: the perfect foundation for entrepreneurship.
@DHCNIO@lister_app Of course, we are a task management solution that aims to eradicate unsafe paper job lists and handover sheets that still saturate our wards (>80% of clinicians still use this method).
@DHCNIO@lister_app It’s simple. Their knowledge of the reality of clinical environments is everything. You can’t teach that, but you can teach everything else about being an innovator/ entrepreneur.

@M_Protty@medicperspecti1 I agree the theory, but what incentives have you seen work? Every bedbase is full; referral lists over subscribed. What levers reverse clinician's defensiveness of their workload? (Always with good intentions: 'I need to keep this bed for someone who really needs my expertise').
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the AI tends towards false positives... But it isn't achieving high sensitivities to compensate.
For the human candidates this was an interesting way to spend a day off. Some will not have been performative. For the AI, this represents its very best.
Radiology has been the cutting-edge of AI in health care... Unfortunately, its incisions still leave something to be desired...

"These folks built an amazing space shuttle. However, it very likely can’t fly and will probably crash."-- a great critical appraisal of a flawed paper on diagnostic error in emergency medicine (attempting to attribute 8% of *all* deaths to this alone).

We've produced a new video for patients, sharing top tips on simple things they can do to help keep safe during a hospital stay. Providers are asked to consider ways they can make this available to their patients, along with the accompanying leaflet https://t.co/XBLaj2tlcC
