Govt's hatred towards Babasaheb!

It is extremely sad that after coming to power, the Narendra Modi govt has arbitrarily cancelled Dr. Ambedkar National and International Awards since 2015 without giving any valid reasons.

The Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National and International Award were instituted in 1992 and 1995 respectively by the GOI in honor of Babasaheb. These awards are administered by the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Foundation, an organization under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

Every year on April 14 (Ambedkar Jayanti), these awards are conferred upon individuals and organizations that have made exceptional contributions to promoting social harmony and the upliftment of weaker sections of society. The selection process is based on published works or social movements that have had a significant impact on the lives of the weaker sections.

The Ambedkar International Award is given annually to a qualified individual or organization from across the globe. The award includes a cash prize of ₹15 lakhs and a citation. In addition, three National Awards are given every year to individual or organizations. Each of these awards carries a cash of ₹10 lakhs and a citation.

However, these awards have not been conferred by the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Foundation from 2015 to 2025.

Every year since 2015, the foundation has announced calls for nominations and then arbitrarily cancelled the awards, citing no valid reason. This indicates a lack of transparency and negligence regarding the awards.

My friend @PkGollamudi filed an RTI to the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Foundation inquiring about why the awards were being arbitrarily cancelled, their response stated that the awards had been discontinued.

However, when asked whether there was any official government order (GO) or public announcement about the discontinuation of these awards, the foundation did not respond to the email or provide any such information.

When this matter was taken up under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Foundation delayed the response beyond the stipulated timeframe. As a result, the matter was appealed before the Central Information Commission (CIC).

The CIC accepted the appeal and summoned the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Foundation for a hearing on March 3, 2025. Before the hearing, the foundation stated that:

“The decision to discontinue the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Award for Social Understanding and Upliftment of Weaker Sections was reviewed and has been discontinued vide Ministry of Home Affairs [Confidential] Office Memorandum No. 5/1/2020-Public dated 03.10.2022.”

They claimed that the decision was confidential and hence the details of the decision to cancel the awards could not be disclosed to the public.

Every year on Ambedkar Jayanti, political leaders and political parties pay tribute to the great personality and take photos in front of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue and claim that they will follow and protect his ideology. How appropriate is it for the political parties, politica leader to remove an award that is named after him? बुद्ध परंपरा के अनुसार भारत को जंबूद्वीप करते हैं। इस जंबूद्वीप में बुध का अविर्भाव संसार की सबसे महत्वपूर्ण घटना है। समस्त संसार में धम्म का उद्देश्य मनुष्य एवं सभी जीवो का उद्धार करना है और यही बुद्ध का सम्यक मार्ग है। आदर्श जीवन के निर्माण करने वाले बुध धर्म और संघ के तीन सिद्धांत को त्रिरत्न कहते हैं जो इन रत्नों की शरण में सच्चे मन से आते हैं वही बौद्ध कहलाते हैं। बौद्ध धर्म में शील ,समाधि और प्रज्ञा के सम्यक अनुशीलन से ही मनुष्य बौद्ध धर्म के घर आ सकता है।
बौद्ध धर्म के अनुयाई कहलाने के लिए त्रिशरण गमन अनिवार्य है और यह तभी संभव है जब मनुष्य बुद्ध धर्म, संघ के प्रति पूर्ण श्रद्धा और विश्वास रखता हो । मनुष्य को अपना दीपक स्वयं बनना चाहिए और परिस्थितियों का मूल्यांकन करके ही आगे बढ़ना चाहिए। धम्म इसीलिए अत दीपो भव को महत्वपूर्ण मानता है। करुणा,दया और मैत्री के बिना सब बंजर भूमि जैसा है जिसे सम्यक ज्ञान से सींचे बिना हरा भरा नहीं बनाया जा सकता है।
