It was my pleasure interacting with scientists of @icmr_nirt on the theme of my book Echoes from the Atoll- Inside India's first TB-Free islands. Many thoughts regarding polivy and program management in the book resonated with many. I feel proud as an author.
@ICMR_NIRT hosted an insightful interaction with Dr Rakesh PS on TB elimination and community-based approaches. His experiences from Lakshadweep’s TB-free journey offered valuable perspectives on community engagement, local systems and public health action.
Delighted to receive a copy of
"Echoes from the Atoll: Inside India's First TB-Free Islands" by my dear friend Dr Rakesh P S during our get-together Baker's Arch, Kuravankonam, on 6 August 2026
Kudos, wishing the book a wide readership! 📖 😊

"What is the maximum amount of care that can safely be moved closer to the person?" That question drove Lakshadweep's #TB elimination, explains @DrRAKESHPS1, a @WHO consultant who worked there for years. Read the full interview here: https://t.co/xdmEc5C7tJ
“There was nothing glamorous about another round of house-to-house screening or ensuring that tomorrow's sputum sample was tested promptly. But elimination was built on precisely that repetition,” says @DrRAKESHPS1 on Lakshadweep’s journey to TB-free status: https://t.co/T7XAXVQhBF
“The underwater world looked impossibly peaceful. Or perhaps I was not sensitive enough to understand their conflicts, fears, & insecurities.” @DrRAKESHPS1 talks about how his scuba diving session mirrored the gap between #healthcare policy & ground realities https://t.co/T7XAXVQPrd

Lakshadweep was declared TB-free in 2021—India's first such success. It took “remarkably simple things done consistently," @DrRAKESHPS1, a @WHO consultant who worked there for years, told @madhavapeddik. Our interview: #Tuberculosis#EndTb https://t.co/xdmEc5C7tJ
"On my 1st visit itself, I realized something: the sea was in charge," says @DrRAKESHPS1, whose upcoming book details Lakshadweep’s journey to #TB elimination. Reaching patients across 10 islands depended on the ship schedule, the weather & the sea. Read on: https://t.co/T7XAXVQhBF
Lakshadweep has 10 inhabited islands—most 2-5 hours away from headquarters on choppy seas. Minicoy is a 16-hour ship journey away. How did the archipelago become India’s first TB-free territory? @madhavapeddik speaks with @DrRAKESHPS1 to find out: https://t.co/xdmEc5BzEb
