PRESIDENT NETUMBO NANDI-NDAITWAH NAMED TO TIME’S ANNUAL TIME100 LIST OF THE WORLD’S MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE

Windhoek, Namibia – 16 April 2026 — TIME has named President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to the 2026 TIME100, its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world.

The TIME100 list recognises the impact, innovation, and achievement of the world’s most influential individuals, celebrating leaders whose contributions continue to shape the global agenda.

In her tribute, Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director of UNAIDS, reflects on President Nandi-Ndaitwah’s lifelong journey of service, noting that her story embodies a powerful and often overlooked truth: African women were central to the struggle against colonial rule. As a young woman, she joined Namibia’s liberation movement in exile, contributing to the country’s independence and helping shape a vision of a democratic nation grounded in dignity, equality, and shared prosperity.

The tribute further highlights her transition from liberation fighter to national leader, serving in senior roles, including as Foreign Minister, culminating in her historic election as Namibia’s first female President. Today, she continues to break barriers, leading an inclusive government and inspiring women across Africa and the world.

On the global stage, President Nandi-Ndaitwah is recognised as a consistent and respected voice from the Global South, advancing equity and justice through international platforms and agreements, including the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. Her leadership continues to contribute to shaping a more just, safe, and equitable world.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah’s inclusion reflects her steadfast leadership and commitment to advancing Namibia’s development priorities, strengthening democratic governance, and championing inclusive economic growth. It also underscores Namibia’s growing voice on the international stage, particularly in promoting peace, stability, and equitable progress.

The 14th WTO Ministerial Meeting has closed in Yaoundé. We worked hard, we stayed late negotiating until the wee hours of each morning, we got a lot done, including agreement on an important reform package, but couldn’t quite close the deal on the e-commerce Moratorium. We were supposed to close the meeting at 1pm but Members kept working until midnight and then quite rightly decided to adjourn the meeting and take back our Yaoundé package of work to Geneva to complete it there. Members were amazing in their patience and determination. Our Cameroonian hosts were even more amazing. Many thanks to them for their warm hospitality and hard work. We are grateful in particular to H.E. Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, to the Interministerial Committee, to MC14 Chair H.E. Minister Luc-Magloire Mbarga Atangana @MbargaAtangana1 and H.E. Amb Salomon Eheth. I want to say how proud I am of the wonderful @wto Secretariat staff who, working beside Cameroon, helped to ensure the success of this meeting. The attendance of over 120 delegations, over 80 Ministers, and 2000 delegates is a testimony to the importance of the Yaoundé meeting. Long live the Yaoundé package! We’ll complete the work!

Wrapping up my 4-day productive visit to Cameroon, where I participated in #WTOMC14.

This MC-14 was uniquely placed. The @WTO Ministerial Conference was returning to the African Continent after a decade, and the global trade landscape had changed considerably in the interim period.

Reflecting on the last four days spent in Cameroon, I am assured that India's stance on issues in the WTO was not only heard but also reflected in the Ministerial decisions.

India ensured that the voice of the Global South was well-articulated and the needs and aspirations of developing countries and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) were given primacy in the negotiating room.

India constructively engaged in all agenda items and in areas where India had strong concerns, we took a position based on the principles of openness, fairness, non-discrimination and inclusivity, which are the cornerstones of WTO engagement.

On the sidelines of MC-14, I held extensive bilateral meetings with many countries, trading blocs and key African countries. This enabled greater receptiveness to India's position on key agenda items of MC-14. Truly grateful to friends and colleagues for the fruitful engagement throughout.

Supporting me in this endeavour were the officers of @DoC_GoI, PMI Geneva, relevant ministries, experts who have burnt many a midnight oil to ensure that India's interests are well protected and represented in this Ministerial Conference. Kudos to all of you!

Going forward, India will continue to engage with WTO members on issues of critical importance for the global trade landscape, transparently, constructively and in good faith!
