“Being hated by idiots is the price you pay for not being one of them.”
- Jean Cocteau
Jean Cocteau (1889–1963) was an extraordinarily versatile French artist who rarely confined himself to a single creative pursuit. He wrote poetry and novels, directed films, designed ballets, and constantly drew. In 1929, while recovering in a clinic, he completed Les Enfants Terribles in just 17 days. Years later, during its film adaptation, Cocteau became so absorbed in production that he reportedly yelled “cut” during a scene, prompting director Jean-Pierre Melville to remove him from the set.
Even a vacation in southern France became an artistic undertaking. While staying at the villa of his friend Francine Weisweiller, Cocteau initially asked permission to make a drawing above the fireplace. He soon expanded far beyond that small project, eventually covering walls, ceilings, and furnishings with roughly 200 works. He affectionately described the transformed home as his “tattooed villa,” with artists such as Picasso and Matisse encouraging his creativity.
Cocteau brought the same imagination to filmmaking. Decades before digital effects existed, he created surreal illusions using remarkably simple techniques. To make characters appear to move through mirrors, he filmed reflective pools of liquid mercury from above, while reversed footage allowed unnatural movements to appear strangely convincing.
Throughout his life, Cocteau seemed capable of turning almost anything into a canvas for his imagination. A novel could emerge in a matter of days, a friend’s home could become an enormous artwork, and an ordinary mirror could be transformed into a mysterious passageway to another world.

A big problem with AI that is often not discussed is that, now that is all over business signs and unavoidable in public spaces, is that it is making our world aesthetically uglier, which is a tragic thing.
Yesterday was my final day as Director of National Intelligence. I declassified and released never-before-seen documents exposing the truth about Fauci directing millions of US taxpayer dollars to fund dangerous gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab, worked with the Intelligence Community to suppress the truth about his actions and hide the virus’ lab-leak origins, and lied to Congress while under oath in 2024. It’s time you know the truth. Go to https://t.co/tVwWp0TxZ4 to see for yourself.
Final Fantasy Composer Nobuo Uematsu says of all the projects he worked on there was something special about Final Fantasy VI that he can't put his finger on!
"In fact, for me too there is something special about VI.
Strangely enough, there is no particular reason this way or that but, of all the projects that I have been involved in until now, VI was strangely like I was able to put my all into it. I mean, I always give my all, but the team itself really had a concentrated energy. I can't put my finger on why that was."

Our for-profit health care system is not only broken & cruel, it's extremely wasteful.
While we spend billions on stock buybacks, CEO compensation & denying needed care, Medicare for All would save $650 billion & 68,000 lives a year per CBO & Yale University. Let's get it done.
We're currently witnessing the grandest gaslighting spectacle in human history.
Half of Biden's voters are insisting that we're the ones who are bonkers, claiming he's in peak mental condition.
The other half, on the other hand, are now trying to act like it's hip to point out his mental hiccups, as if they didn't notice them before the debate and this is a new revelation. 🙄
Get the entire F**k out of here.
"Throughout the years of Julian's imprisonment and persecution, an incredible movement has been formed. People from all walks of life from around the world who support not just Julian... but what Julian stands for: truth and justice." - @Stella_Assange https://t.co/o6rEz3urdP
Julian Assange boards flight at London Stansted Airport at 5PM (BST) Monday June 24th. This is for everyone who worked for his freedom: thank you.

JULIAN ASSANGE IS FREE
Julian Assange is free. He left Belmarsh maximum security prison on the morning of 24 June, after having spent 1901 days there. He was granted bail by the High Court in London and was released at Stansted airport during the afternoon, where he boarded a plane and departed the UK.
This is the result of a global campaign that spanned grass-roots organisers, press freedom campaigners, legislators and leaders from across the political spectrum, all the way to the United Nations. This created the space for a long period of negotiations with the US Department of Justice, leading to a deal that has not yet been formally finalised. We will provide more information as soon as possible.
After more than five years in a 2x3 metre cell, isolated 23 hours a day, he will soon reunite with his wife Stella Assange, and their children, who have only known their father from behind bars.
WikiLeaks published groundbreaking stories of government corruption and human rights abuses, holding the powerful accountable for their actions. As editor-in-chief, Julian paid severely for these principles, and for the people's right to know.
As he returns to Australia, we thank all who stood by us, fought for us, and remained utterly committed in the fight for his freedom.
Julian's freedom is our freedom.
