@RetroBayArea We used to see him alot around. Obviously. I grew up in 95129 in the 80s and 90s. Long before an apple city existed. Or hwy 85. Was orchards that we had tree houses in saratoga Blue Hills.

I grew up 5 blocks away. Everyone had jobs there. It waa such a beautiful mall with the plants and wood. The other place that was the most happening was El Paseo on the corner of saratoga and prospect Blvd. Outdoor mall/office building place...but it had the movie theater and I thibk ice cream? But for sure you could alwaya find a boyfriend at el Paseo that went to the other high schools. The oaks in cupwrtinobwas similar Outdoor qith fountains and wood beams and big redwood trees

During the American Revolution Flanders/wallonia (belgium) did exactly that. The Bishop of Leige sent iron cookware to the colonies thru the neutral port of Oostende, arranged by Flemish merchant families in North America and the Carribbean and the pots were melted into arms. All wars are won on logiatics and supply and the Antwerp/Zeeland merchants and their families in the colonies handled most of that. #history

Im trying to learn more about where in the Carribean the da Costas were during the revolution. I believe they were still active trading to some degree. I do find it interesting that the grand-great grandsons of Jacob vuriel a well known arms supplier to end up in Plainfield next to Blue Hills encampment-dyring the early parts of the war i think we had to rely on covert aid funneled thru statia and other carribean ports. Apparently one of the coreilles was washingrons last living pall bearer...so thats, interesting.

Interesting. Thanks for the tip on northern counting houses. Ive seen birth and other records from people in ny/nj that list brazil, so that would do it. I think the most famous of these Dutch trade port creoles are the Indo-Dutch Van Halens. VOC routes not wic but puts well known faces to what "Dutch" can look like. Arguably the most famous Dutch name of the past century.

I was lucky enough to grow up in a redwood belt. They were even in the grocery store parking lot. The air in a redwoods forest is sublime. There's another tree in southern California "methusala" allegedly oldest tree in north America? Regardless...it truly ia mind warping to consider how long theyve been around and terribly sad when they burn. And so, so many were destructively logged and gone forever now. In this instance youre incorrect. Who do you think the "Black Dutch" were? However in Paul Reveres case he came from a Hugenot family. hugenots were 2 % of the colonial population at the time of the revolution but 40% of the founding fathers were/descendend from Hugenots. Hugenots are French protestants who heavily intermarried with Iberian new Christians (eg. Sephardic Jews and Moors). So, for the Hugenots and the Dutch, it depends on wether or not people of North African/Levantine descent are/were considered "white".

D/SAR (daughters/sons of the American Revolution) recognize many people of color as qualifying ancestors. The % share of population doesn't translate to the % involvement in the Revolution. Again, Hugenots were 2% of the Colonial population yet 40% of Founding fathers were or descend from hugenots. The Thomas family Indians were Washington's guides at Camp Middlebrook (8 months). See Washington's papers and current street name leading to Washington's campground. Ceasar the negroe was a wagon driver at the same camp. Many free people of color worked the docks and helped to run the logistics and supply. If that doesn't seem important...well, wars are won on logistics and supply and finances not on strategy.

Revere came from a Hugeonot family. As did roughly 40% of the founding fathers even though Huegenots were only 2% of the colonial population at time of Revolution. 90% of the economic engine of the Revolution were Hugenot/sephardic descent. Iberian New Christians (Sephardic Jews and Moors) intermarried heavily with the Hugenots and Dutch Reform post 1492. These groups, along with the Spanish (heavily Converso) were the financial and logistics and supply backbone of the revolution. South Carolina and the mid Atlantic area, especially NJ were Hugenot dominant. It depends wether you consider people of North African/Levantine descent "white" or not.

Seriously! I was just looking at the California Catholic land grant maps last night in order to update some California historical society biographies of my ancestors for the 250th. Anyone in the west (NV/NM/TX/CA and even Loiusiana) sees the names every day...and those were real people that were here before it was a state. Alvarado, Vallejo, Benicia, Carillo, Novato, Ygnacio Martinez etc. etc. I know Mexicans whose families were hiding out in Utah from the Inquisition. That's how long theyve been here. And when they were made states, the land grants and citizenship were part of the terms of the treaties to
end the Mexican American war.
There are something like 30 million Latinos in the United States now that descend from the land grants.

This is a really common misconception re: Dutch military vs merchant naval power. This is how the Dutch have ALWAYS been. See Dutch naval historian professor viktor enthoven's work. NL was/is a maritime merchant/shipping/logistics powerhouse; never a true naval military superpower like England. The same thing happened in American Revolution where the $$ from private Dutch merchants as well as the shell corps funneling french/Spanish money was primarily going thru the Dutch Freeport of St. Eustacious...one of their most important....and it wasnt even being protected and the English sacked it. They didnt have a big enough navy. They concentrated it on trade not military. Again....see professor Viktor Enthoven's work.

30 million US Latinos descend from the Spanish Catholic land grants. They were on this continent before the mayflower. CA constitution signing senator Thomas L Vermeule voted to uphold the Catholic land grants when CA became a state. In 1950s SOcAL its highly likely most "mexicans" were from old Californios land grant families. Not every Latino is a "wet back illegal".

How many Americans under age 30 are physically and mentally fit enough to be drafted? I was under the impression significant swathes have diagnosed disabilities and chronic health issues that would preclude ability to serve. Maybe the numbers Ive seen the past 20 years in medical conferences are fake.

They wont forget for long. My grandfather ran a refrigerated long distance trucking business and he taught me in the 70s how diesel engines were designed by Rudolph Diesel to run on the oil from the farm. Diesel engines running on plant oils is as old as the diesel engine itself. Funny how many people never even knew that to begin with to be able to forget it
