Thrilled that our recent paper on #eDNA in rivers is now out in @NatureComms! https://t.co/2jR1WYr19W With data from 5 rivers (Europe & US), and a year time series, we measured #biodiversity patterns across a range of taxa, demonstrating the powerful insights eDNA can yield 🧵👇
New year, new us! It's been a blast, but we have decided that it's time for us to migrate from X. Stay in touch with us on our many other platforms!

@chris_harrod@TheFSBI Yeah, I get that, for sure. I will keep fighting the good fight... And I'm sure we will be getting the FSBI up and running on Bsky in the near future. See, I love Tiktok!! Although it is brain rot central 😂
@chris_harrod@TheFSBI It would just be nice to move away from paywalled services, as it can prevent people from accessing the services effectively. It can exclude people who can't pay the price. Which is a shame, given there are free, truly open access alternatives, like Mastodon.
@chris_harrod@TheFSBI I disagree that entropy gets you in the end. Ultimately, it's more the problem that they make it enticing to join, and then ruin the user experience chasing profits, just like Twitter. I also don't think the Mastodon user experience is that different.
@chris_harrod@TheFSBI Bsky does also use algorithms, albeit you currently have more control over them - although I can see that might be something they charge people for, in future! I fear Bsky might look great at the moment, but will go through "enshittification", a wonderful term coin in 2022 😂
@chris_harrod@TheFSBI Bsky is not fully open source. Parts are, such as the AT Protocol but the Bsky social app itself isn't. Mastodon is 100% open source. There are no ads currently because there is lots of venture capital going into it. When that dries up, I'm sure there will be ads or subscriptions
@chris_harrod@TheFSBI FSBI hat off! An FSBI Bsky has been raised & will be discussed at council. I get the allure, but for me moving to a Twitter duplicate seems to be denying lessons learned from X (a clearly flawed/damaging setup). Especially when there are more principled alternatives i.e Mastodon

We are unveiling the “Green Travel Awards” at #FSBI2025! We understand funding and time can be impediments, but we want to encourage greener travel choices and for attendees to share their journey stories/photos on social media with the tag #FSBIGreenTravel. More info soon!
Very excited for the #FSBIGreenTravel award! Having taken the train to Bilbao #FSBI2024, I can't wait to go low carbon again for Belfast #FSBI2025. Already started planning my route! Just one of the great initiatives spearheaded by @otolithgirl to limit @TheFSBI's CO2 🌍❤️🚆⛴️
So excited about this meeting! Also stay tuned at @fsbi_symposium for updates on the inaugral "Green Travel Awards" - a fun but important initiative dreamed up by @DrWillPerry and myself to try and get to meetings with as low an environmental footprint as possible! #ClimateCrisis
