I had to fight tooth and nail, and get my ES involved to be allowed SL for the day of my exam…

In hours would be an F1 covering it, OOH would be an SHO…

In current hospital ICU2 can be F1/IMT1-2/ACCS2 etc both in and out of hours…

This is entirely the point of student loans - to ensure if you don't have wealthy parents you earn 9% less than someone who had wealthy parents. For your whole life. For doing the same job.

Education and work were never meant to allow you to escape the class system.

@DrEilidhMaria Have you tried melatonin? You can get it online for ‘jet lag’ (which I honestly think night shifts are comparable to) or get it from abroad (where it’s OTC). Massively helps me in the switching from day to night and isn’t a sedative…

BUT… reception told the patient when they booked the appointment they’d be seen by a student…

AND I would immediately discuss patient with GP who would then see the patient, clarify anything I’d missed, examine if needed etc

It’s D2 of my obstetric anaesthesia novice supernumary block.

I’ve managed to put a few needles in the right place, seen 6 babies born and taken countless photos.

Lots to learn but can truly say I’m currently enjoying it more than I thought!

First inter-hospital critical care transfer done 💪🏻✅ after intubating the patient with smoke inhalation and burns. Feel like I’ve come a long way from the Dr who didn’t know how to give an anaesthetic just over 6 months ago, and couldn’t be left unsupervised!

@Dr_BellaR I prepared for this q for my anaes interview last year. I basically had a pros and cons argument prepared but presented my opinion that there needed to be further discussions around their scope, to ensure they didn’t impact on trainees etc. I never got asked it!

I completely agree re the health inequalities and I’m so mad to see the county I love going down this route! (I only left wales due to military husband)

All you can do is advocate for yourself and support movements like @AnaesUnited who are fighting for patient safety.

My mother is a breast cancer survivor - I’m terrified that her concerns will be dismissed by a MAP, leading to complications…

Partly, I think, due to issues in recruitment/retention in rural areas - they are using them as a ‘cheap’ alternative to Drs…
