Some fantasy authors (like Le Guin) disagree with this one and its very interesting to see the tension lile with Tolkien's orcs (i think she wtote a full essay on this but this is all I could find)
@prototypell It genuinely just has to come down to suspension of disbelief and story convenience sometimes. The fantasy world needs its antagonists SOMEHOW, it's just better when it's not boiled down to "it just is."
its like the tolkien orcs situation right. like people think the problem with Inherently Evil Fantasy Races is that theyre not woke enough but in reality they just simply dont make any sense on a conceptual level
of course if a person was doomed to be an evil axe murderer by birth due to having the axe murderer gene i would also find this quite a sad and sympathetic situation to be in, but maybe that's too woke for you guys
I know I should be grateful or whatever but there's a decent chance of me getting a part time job soon but it is literally only 17 hrs a wk and doesnt pay much more and will barely cover anything so i feel like nothing is really changing
I have applied to over 800 jobs and had 6 interviews. Walked into 7 places with now hiring signs that told me they aren't actually hiring. I've tried everything, I don't know what to do anymore
@KolboKolb I believe that is moreso how magic is currently viewed and implemented (i.e. hard magic systems and everything is just laser beams, etc.) Not so much saturation but the fantastical has been stripped of anything fantastical
I feel like Faerûn would be a really good setting if it became super Low Magic and a “majority human party” rule was implemented.
The reason it turns so many serious gamers off is because it has been turned into thoughtless kitchen sink fantasy.
Being homeless in fact involvesa lot of waiting around doing nothing, the world is not a space where you can go to the do stuff place and do things to get stuff, there's slots, schedules, delays, beuraucracy and all sorts of other things. It only takes 30 minutes to-
@Nuskylicious I've heard some pretty decent things about The Blacktongue Thief but i haver read it, this is my first with him. It took a bit but it really grew on me
Tried to read this one a bit ago and couldn't get into it and yet now its been like 3 days and im halfway through and hooked, highly recommend so far this is a Pere Mathieu household
I’ve never regretted eating pasta on the couch with someone I love or going to a sunny patio for tapas and sangria or sharing a chilis triple dipper with my friends. Food is fun and beautiful and you don’t need to categorize food as “bad” or regret enjoying it
i also hate that we have to defend BC used for sexual freedom with “ppl take it for non sexual reasons” which is very true and important but also ppl shouldn’t have a problem with being used for sexual freedom
