Here’s a quick look at some of the books I’ll be reading (and possibly writing about) over the summer. If you’d like to follow along, get your copies ready!
@sensualhoplite I spent a whole lot of money on stamps in college only to get about four letters back in total. Better to learn that lesson that way than to get stuck paying alimony though!
@johnricard I don’t care enough to go digging it up, but it’s kind of strange to start a Latin language page without knowing the language! I don’t think he got very far either
@johnricard Months ago I tried to get to the bottom of this question, because his website is full of AI generated infographics about the language with really odd/obscure vocab choices. There’s a tweet out there where he basically says “I am declaring my intentions to begin learning Latin”
You don’t need to learn Latin to read Livy if you’re born with an innate knowledge of Roman history. In fact, you don’t need to read Livy at all! How lucky are we to live in a time with such brilliant boys?
@Nuskylicious@Absyrte@romanhelmetguy See, you think your childish reply (equivalent of @i know you are but what am I) is “great” and clever, but it just reveals insecurities as a self proclaimed classicist. Smart people don’t need you to tell them what Livy says or means.

It has been generally understood between historians that all the records of Rome were destroyed by Brennus in 390 bc, and that everything Livy says in the first five or so books ought to be taken as legend rather than recorded history.
If you read Livy and understand what the early Romans were willing to sacrifice for the survival of their Republic, you will never stop hating our ‘elites.’
