@jonreidphoto @Geoff_Walton @Keir_Starmer Moving for economic purposes should not be unregulated, as every State has to commit resources towards the individuals that live there. It is entirely sensible, and logical, to ensure people moving to your Country have the means to support themselves, and their dependents.
@Geoff_Walton @Keir_Starmer Ironically it was the French president who was arguing the biggest contributor to illegal migration around Europe was Freedom of Movement within the EU. Even the EU recognise FoM as a bad idea, as it’s always the counter demand for any ask..,
@Keir_Starmer …and then different gangs come back in their place, because you’ve not addressed the underlying issue - which is the demand for these gangs, from people trying to get to the UK. If they had a legitimate claim to be in the UK, they wouldn’t be getting on these boats, would they?
@Lizzypop15 @RaefOcean@clairebubblepop Labour have no idea how this will impact; Starmer even suggested that the schools could absorb the cost from their profit margins, without increasing fees. The really hilarious thing is Labour simply think all these people/schools will just simply spend more #Labourconomics.
@Lizzypop15 @RaefOcean@clairebubblepop It will raise £1.3Bn-ish, which might only pay for the 6,500 teachers (but not their recruitment or training) - doesn’t explain how they’re going to attract an additional 6,500 teachers - there wasn’t a queue the last time I checked…
@Marlowe_UK@J34JEAN@RhonddaBryant The State pension will be taxed for the first time under Labour, unless they change their income tax (or pension) plans (something not denied by Labour)… and I’ve yet to see any proposal from Labour to actually curb the demand for migrants getting onto small boats…
@RhonddaBryant@J34JEAN Starmer didn’t write the speech, some lacky in the back office wrote it… unless I’m proved wrong, and the King starts with “My dad, who was a toolmaker…”
@canadiancarol1 Will be interesting to see the math behind the massive increase in supply of new houses on the housing market, and how potentially falling house prices affects people’s LTV when it comes to their mortgages and interest rates…
@YourElfx@implausibleblog Why should they? Surely it’s better for the NHS if those people who can afford private healthcare, pay for it and use it? This reduces demand on the NHS but doesn’t affect its income at all?! How does increasing demand into the NHS help it?
@implausibleblog@MartynSpence It wasn’t a plan, it was an ambition, and about making the personal tax system simpler - as NI is just another income tax; it was never suggested that the revenue from NI would be forsaken. Labour taxing pensioners, though…. That is entirely a plan, and real.
@liggs42@CollarsHel@HTawfiq1@LouiseStaite The public has never voted on any PM… we vote for our MPs; the party’s choose their leader(s). Unless you reside in his constituency, you didn’t vote for Starmer either.
@Keir_Starmer So this is another border force for the existing border force…. And you’re doing exactly what to suppress demand for small boats, because you’ve just cancelled the only deterrent…
@br_nning Really? You think a couple of private flights and press conferences is the equivalent of dealing with the fallout of Labours financial crisis in 2010, BREXIT, a global pandemic and a war in Europe… those are some real red-tinted glasses you’re wearing…
@llantwitad @lenrichardson1 @LeoMars75 You pay 20%/30%/40% tax on your ‘wealth’? You must be the only person, as there isn’t a wealth tax in the UK, it’s income tax - and yes, non-doms pay UK tax on their UK income; they just don’t pay UK tax rates on non-UK income (as that’s taxed wherever the income is recognised).
@0hFunnyFace @dhphoto@clairebubblepop@implausibleblog Here’s the ‘here and now’ Labours entire proposal is dependent on economic growth; but the economy grew at 0.7% last quarter (so 2.8% annually extrapolating)… fastest GDP growth in the G7 - and Labour NEED it to grow faster to spend, but without driving up inflation 🙄🙄
