Incredible honor to receive the @Vilcek prize for creative promise on biomedical sciences🎉 Huge congrats to Karolin Luger, @AashishManglik , and @BernaSozen_ 🥳 It was great meeting you all! The next application deadline is coming up, apply!!
Great to host the visit today of two highly accomplished academic researchers in very disparate fields of study – Prof. Anthony (Tony) Rosato, a theoretical mechanician from New Jersey Institute of Technology and Prof. @Draviam_LAB a quantitative cell and molecular biologist from @QMUL. Tony was in town to attend the Achenbach Symposium scheduled for tomorrow and to discuss logistics associated with my upcoming Distinguished Elsevier Lecture in Mechanics, scheduled for April 17. Viji was here to participate in an event associated with our National Institute for Theory and Mathematics in Biology here at @NorthwesternU, and to follow-up on some discussions that we initiated when I visited her group at @QMUL last month to deliver the Sir Peter Mansfield Lecture. Thanks so much to both of you for spending some time with us, interacting with the PhD students and postdocs in our group, and sharing your expertise and insights!
@ProfJohnARogers Inspiring day at @ProfJohnARogers Research Group, chatting with passionate researchers building futuristic microelectromechanical systems supporting neuromuscular organoids and optogenetics. MEMS could soon transform mainstream healthcare!!
What an honor to deliver the Sir Peter Mansfield lecture at @queen_mary_un (QMUL) today! This annual lecture series features speakers whose research combines fundamental and applied study, geared toward the translation of scientific knowledge into technologies of broader societal value – a style embodied by Mansfield, the co-inventor of MRI techniques, now in widespread medical use. In fact, the very first human MRI images were collected on Mansfield himself! An interesting additional anecdote is that Mansfield furthered his efforts in this area during a one-year sabbatical stay in 1962 at the @UofIllinois (UIUC), where he worked closely with Prof. Paul Lauterbur who was there on the faculty at that time. The two of them were later selected as co-recipients of the 2003 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine –the same year that I started my faculty position at UIUC! I remember well the celebrations at UIUC on that occasion, and my pride in being associated with this institution. This broader context served to enhance my exciting visit to QMUL, hosted by my collaborator Prof. Yang Hao, and joined by young, energetic faculty and students during meetings throughout the day. My talk featured our work on epidermal electronics, and commercialization through @Sibel_Health , on microfluidic ‘lab on the skin’ devices, and commercialization through @epicorebio, and on next generation work in skin flux sensors (published a few months ago in Nature) and millimeter scale temporary cardiac pacemakers (published a few months ago, also in Nature). Events concluded with a beautiful dinner at a restaurant on the Thames! Special thanks not only to Yang but also to the other faculty who met with me – and to the dinner crew of Yang, Prof. @AAlomainy and Prof. @Draviam_LAB !
Wangari Maathai was the first female professor in Kenya and the first African woman to be awarded the #NobelPeacePrize. She founded the Green Belt Movement, which led to the planting of millions of trees.
Today we announce the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.
I’m truly grateful to https://t.co/T1CsHjpATZ for sharing my story and my path in science. 🌍
This isn’t just about me, but about the mentors, colleagues, friends & family who believed in me.
I hope it inspires others to follow their passions. ✨
