DRC envoy tells media @UN the Security Council's 1st straw poll will be held on Thursday, July 30, most likely in the morning, in the SC's consultation room. The latest candidate to throw his hat in the ring, Olara Ottunu, of Uganda, will be included in the poll, even though he has not gone through the GA public hearing. This could set a path for others to jump over that process.

EU Envoy Commends Uganda's Transformation in Farewell Meeting with General Muhoozi Kainerugaba

Entebbe, Tuesday 28 July 2026

The outgoing Deputy Ambassador of the European Union to Uganda has praised President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni's leadership, noting that the country's socioeconomic transformation over the last four years has had tremendous impact on the livelihoods of Ugandans.

Ambassador Guillaume Chartrain made the remarks during a farewell meeting with the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, at the Special Forces Command Headquarters in Entebbe.

The Ambassador, who has served in Uganda for four years, noted the growth of Uganda socially and economically has bolstered relations between EU and Uganda contributing growth in economic and political cooperation between the EU and Uganda.

In response, Gen. Kainerugaba acknowledged the envoy's observations, noting that Uganda and Africa as a whole are rising economically. He added that, like other developed nations, Uganda is taking the right steps along its development trajectory.

The outgoing EU envoy pledged to continue advocating for strong collaboration between Uganda and the European Union during his next tour of duty. The two leaders also discussed other bilateral issues pertinent to the relationship between Uganda and the EU

The CDF, who also serves as the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, thanked Ambassador Chartrain for the visit and wished him well in his future assignments.

This evening at State House Entebbe, I met H.E. Dr. Kamba Mulanda Samuel Roger, the DRC Minister of Public Health, who delivered a special message from President Félix Tshisekedi on the Ebola outbreak. I reaffirmed Uganda’s readiness to support our brothers and sisters in the DRC through treatment, technical expertise and close regional cooperation.

Uganda contained its recent Ebola cases through early detection, treatment and strict public health measures. I also proposed establishing Ebola treatment centres inside eastern DRC to ensure early treatment closer to the affected communities and help contain the disease at its source.
