DINEO PATRICIA TIRO RAPE AND MURDER TRIAL POSTPONED TO 12 OCTOBER

The rape and murder trial of 37-year-old Kagiso Molotsi, who is accused of the rape and murder of 22-year-old Dineo Patricia Tiro, has been postponed to 12 October 2026 following delays that affected proceedings this week.

Dineo is the deceased victim in the matter.
She was allegedly raped and murdered in Tweelagte after reportedly visiting a nearby tavern on 25 September 2021.

According to information presented in the case, Dineo never returned home after leaving for the tavern. A search involving the police and community members was later conducted, and on 27 September 2021, her semi-decomposed body was discovered at an abandoned construction building in Tweelagte.

The discovery of the young woman's body left her family and the community deeply traumatised, with the family continuing to seek justice and closure.

The investigation continued for several years before Kagiso Molotsi was arrested on 24 August 2024 in connection with Dineo's death.

Molotsi has remained in custody since his arrest and faces charges of rape and murder. When the charges were formally read in court on 4 June 2026, Molotsi pleaded not guilty.

The trial then proceeded with the State beginning to present evidence against the accused.

The latest proceedings were affected by scheduling delays, initially leaving the matter uncertain due to the absence of the presiding officer.

After continued communication and efforts to establish the status of the matter, confirmation was eventually received late on Wednesday afternoon 2 September 2026, at around 16:00, that the case would proceed on the 3rd.

When court resumed, the State called Colonel Mazibuko from the forensic unit to testify.

Colonel Mazibuko gave technical evidence relating to the forensic investigation, including DNA evidence found on the condom and various items collected from the crime scene.

His testimony focused on the forensic processes undertaken during the investigation and the evidence gathered from the scene where Dineo's body was discovered.

The State was expected to call additional witnesses after the forensic testimony.
Among those expected to testify is Thoriso, who reportedly saw Dineo with Kagiso on the night she disappeared.

However, the proceedings were affected by limited court time.

The matter continued into the afternoon before the court eventually adjourned at approximately 15:30, with the remaining witnesses unable to take the stand.

The presiding officer subsequently postponed the matter to 12 October 2026.

The State is expected to continue presenting its witnesses, including the remaining witnesses whose testimony could shed further light on the circumstances surrounding Dineo's death.

For Dineo's family, the lengthy wait for answers continues.
They are hoping that the ongoing court proceedings will ultimately establish what happened to her and bring the family the justice and closure they have been seeking since her death in 2021.

HELP POLICE FIND MISSING MPHO PRECIOUS MPONYA

Sasolburg detectives are requesting public assistance in locating 20-year-old Mpho Precious Mponya from Sasolburg.

It is alleged by Mpho’s mother that on Monday, 31 August 2026, at about 04:10, she left her residence, leaving her two daughters, aged 19 and 17, asleep.

Upon her return at about 12:30, she discovered that her 20-year-old daughter, Mpho, was not at home. Her 17-year-old daughter informed her that Mpho had left with a friend.

The friend allegedly informed the family that Mpho had taken a taxi to Vereeniging. Efforts to establish Mpho’s whereabouts have so far been unsuccessful.

Mpho is reportedly mentally unstable. She was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, black jeans and black takkies.

Anyone who may have information regarding Mpho’s whereabouts is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Tauru Majoe on 071 094 0570 or CrimeStop on 08600 10111. Alternatively, an anonymous tip-off can be submitted via the MySAPSApp.
