Out of the 4,400 mass shootings from 2018 to 2025 (using GVA data) the number of KNOWN suspects being trans is under 10.

That works out to be .11% of the total number of shooters. According to PolitiFact, the number is 4100 to 7. Also a very small percentage.

Whether someone is transgender or nonbinary is not always known, reported, or verified. Sometimes it comes from media after the fact, or statements by the person, or sometimes speculation.

The media is disproportionately reporting on trans people to incite hate. We can see this very clearly with Charlie Kirk’s assassin. First it was claimed he was a trans person. This is not true. Secondly, it was claimed there was Trans ideology on the bullet casings. Again, false. And finally, the roomate was said to be a transgender partner. False again.

Ask yourself why are they trying paint this narrative so badly on a population that makes up .48% of the total population in America?

This boils down to a couple of things:

1. Moral Panic & Scapegoating: This is a term used by scholars to describe when a smaller group becomes more visible in the media. It’s a cycle where news exaggerates and distorts events to frame a group as a threat. Trans people becoming more prominent in the media has made them a lightning rod for this kind of scapegoating. As seen with Lia Thomas, bathroom discourse, and trans athletes.

2. Political Strategy: With this scapegoating, politicians can seize this issue because it has become emotionally charged and can mobilize voters. Media amplifies these debates and disproportionately creates a focus on a population that again makes up .48% of America.

3. Disproportionate coverage of crime: if a trans person commits a crime, it is now amplified and creates more headlines than if a cis person was to commit the crime. This is called spotlighting. This creates and reinforces a perception that trans people are uniquely dangerous, even when statistical data shows otherwise.

4. Clickbait & Sensationalism: Trans issues tend to garner attention and clicks which politicians and social media platforms can use to generate income and clicks on their sites. These algorithms amplify stories that lead to stronger emotional reactions, leading to more engagement, and extreme framing and a repeated focus on trans related issues.

5. Historical Parallels: this is NOT new. We have historically seen this with other small groups, such as the AIDS epidemic, immigrants, and Jewish people in WW2.

With all of this being said, most trans people are generally regular people who are doing the exact same things as you. Trying to live our lives and pursue or projects and passions. Do not feed into the narrative, as it’s inciting panic and fear and attacks on not only trans women, but biological women as well.

Trump and his entire administration are textbook fascists and America is headed to authoritarianism and dictatorship. Literally textbook what we learned in highschool.

You have to become lenient on your stances and question the administration a little bit to gauge if their intentions are morally dishonest.

In the 1940s the general public of course didn’t meaningfully support genocide it truly believe they were hurting people by supporting Adolf Hitler. The propaganda they consumed pushed them to be more extreme in their stances. Textbook what’s happening today.

As a trans person, the fact that Elon Musks Twitter has RAMPED UP anti-trans propaganda and right wing content in order to extreme right bias our general public is textbook inciting a war and dividing Americans further in order to set the stage for Trump to deploy military in our cities to eventually claim Martial Law. It’s TEXTBOOK. We’ve seen this before.
