we're making @blocks smaller today. here's my note to the company.
####
today we're making one of the hardest decisions in the history of our company: we're reducing our organization by nearly half, from over 10,000 people to just under 6,000. that means over 4,000 of you are being asked to leave or entering into consultation. i'll be straight about what's happening, why, and what it means for everyone.
first off, if you're one of the people affected, you'll receive your salary for 20 weeks + 1 week per year of tenure, equity vested through the end of may, 6 months of health care, your corporate devices, and $5,000 to put toward whatever you need to help you in this transition (if you’re outside the U.S. you’ll receive similar support but exact details are going to vary based on local requirements). i want you to know that before anything else. everyone will be notified today, whether you're being asked to leave, entering consultation, or asked to stay.
we're not making this decision because we're in trouble. our business is strong. gross profit continues to grow, we continue to serve more and more customers, and profitability is improving. but something has changed. we're already seeing that the intelligence tools we’re creating and using, paired with smaller and flatter teams, are enabling a new way of working which fundamentally changes what it means to build and run a company. and that's accelerating rapidly.
i had two options: cut gradually over months or years as this shift plays out, or be honest about where we are and act on it now. i chose the latter. repeated rounds of cuts are destructive to morale, to focus, and to the trust that customers and shareholders place in our ability to lead. i'd rather take a hard, clear action now and build from a position we believe in than manage a slow reduction of people toward the same outcome. a smaller company also gives us the space to grow our business the right way, on our own terms, instead of constantly reacting to market pressures.
a decision at this scale carries risk. but so does standing still. we've done a full review to determine the roles and people we require to reliably grow the business from here, and we've pressure-tested those decisions from multiple angles. i accept that we may have gotten some of them wrong, and we've built in flexibility to account for that, and do the right thing for our customers.
we're not going to just disappear people from slack and email and pretend they were never here. communication channels will stay open through thursday evening (pacific) so everyone can say goodbye properly, and share whatever you wish. i'll also be hosting a live video session to thank everyone at 3:35pm pacific. i know doing it this way might feel awkward. i'd rather it feel awkward and human than efficient and cold.
to those of you leaving…i’m grateful for you, and i’m sorry to put you through this. you built what this company is today. that's a fact that i'll honor forever. this decision is not a reflection of what you contributed. you will be a great contributor to any organization going forward.
to those staying…i made this decision, and i'll own it. what i'm asking of you is to build with me. we're going to build this company with intelligence at the core of everything we do. how we work, how we create, how we serve our customers. our customers will feel this shift too, and we're going to help them navigate it: towards a future where they can build their own features directly, composed of our capabilities and served through our interfaces. that's what i'm focused on now. expect a note from me tomorrow.

Succession. It’s the best show of the decade. It’s also arguably the best thing HBO’s ever done behind The Sopranos. The rewatch value of this show is enormous because the cast, writing, and direction is perfect. Emphasis on “perfect”. It’s is a true once-in-a-lifetime show.
#BenAffleck says film crews deserve to be paid “the decent middle wage that’s been provided for decades in this country” — which is why he and #MattDamon struck a first-of-its-kind deal with #Netflix on their new movie “The Rip” where all 1,200 cast and crew members could receive a back-end bonus if the film succeeds.
“There’s no guarantee that everyone’s going to get rich and be successful, but if you work on a project and it is successful, you ought to benefit from that,” Affleck told Variety on Tuesday night at “The Rip” worldwide premiere in New York.
Most streaming projects pay workers a flat fee upfront, ditching the old model where cast and crew could earn more when a project became a hit.
No. 1 Most Powerful Entertainment Executive: Ted Sarandos
Sarandos led Netflix’s move into original content starting with the 2013 launch of “House of Cards.” He has famously called the moviegoing experience “outdated,” irking not just theater owners but filmmakers.
In a reflection of Netflix’s clout, Sarandos has made a serious bid to acquire the Warner Bros. studios and HBO Max. Even if Netflix doesn’t win, Sarandos is showing that the company is definitely playing in the big leagues.

if you're a streamer/creator who has a huge audience, this here is a genius marketing play
kai has built a huge audience, and if you listen to the video he's talking about how he's going to be sharing his behind the scenes and journey on a private ig acct
a crazy funnel to sell any kinda info/software/ecom products you want
unfortunately most creators are too rtarded to copy it
here's what kai is actually doing
he has millions watching his streams but ZERO direct monetization beyond platform rev share & partnerships
now he's creating a PRIVATE community layer where he controls access and messaging
this is the exact playbook every info product creator uses but scaled to mainstream audience
and most streamers are sleeping on this because they think "my fans just want free content"
wrong bro
your superfans will PAY for closer access and behind the scenes
kai just figured out what alex hormozi and every other operator already knows
PUBLIC content builds audience
PRIVATE access monetizes audience
this is the funnel architecture that prints money
step 1: public content on main platform attracts massive audience
kai's streaming on twitch/youtube getting millions of views
this is top of funnel, pure attention capture
most creators stop here and wonder why they're broke
step 2: tease exclusive content and behind the scenes access
"i'm sharing my real journey, the stuff i can't show publicly, on a private account"
creates curiosity and FOMO
superfans immediately want in
step 3: gate the private account behind application or payment
kai might be doing free access to start but the framework allows for paid tiers
$200/month for private community + calls
$2000/month for private mastermind (streamer university type shi)
the funnel is built, now you just add price gates
step 4: monetize the private audience with products
once you have 10,000 people in private community paying attention
you can sell them ANYTHING
info products: "here's how i built my stream to millions - $997 course"
software: "use my streaming setup tools - $49/month"
ecom: kai cenat merch drops exclusively to private community first
coaching: "i'll review your content strategy - $50k"
the private audience is PRE-QUALIFIED buyers
they already proved they care enough to join private account
way easier to convert than cold audience
here's why this is genius marketing that most creators miss
most streamers try to monetize through: sponsorships (capped by advertiser budgets), platform rev share (capped by platform rates), merch (low margins, hard logistics)
all those revenue streams are CAPPED and CONTROLLED by others
but info products, software, coaching - those scale infinitely and you control pricing
kai could easily do $500k-$2M/month from private community if he wanted
10,000 people paying $50/month = $500k/month recurring
sell one $997 course to that audience = $1M+ in a weekend
the math is fucking insane compared to traditional creator revenue
and here's the playbook any creator with 50k+ followers can copy right now
step 1: announce you're starting private account/community for "real behind the scenes"
don't say you're selling anything yet, just create the exclusive access layer
step 2: drive your public audience to join the private account
"link in bio to join private community where i share what i can't post here"
get 1000-5000 people into private account in first week
step 3: provide actual value in private account for 2-4 weeks
share behind the scenes, answer questions, build relationship
this isn't bait and switch, you're actually delivering value
step 4: introduce paid product to private audience
"a lot of you asked how i grew to X followers, i built a complete course on my strategy - here's the link"
convert 5-10% of private audience = $50k-$200k depending on price and size
step 5: use revenue to build better products and scale
reinvest into more content, better production, bigger team
flywheel starts spinning
most creators won't do this because they think it's "selling out" or "inauthentic"
meanwhile they're making $3k/month from youtube ads wondering when the big break comes
the big break is realizing your AUDIENCE is the asset not the platform
kai has millions of people who trust him and pay attention to what he does
that's worth infinitely more than his twitch contract
because he can monetize that audience 100 different ways across his lifetime
and the private account strategy is just the beginning
once you have private audience you can:
launch info products teaching your process
create software tools for your niche
sell high-ticket coaching to superfans
run paid mastermind groups
do exclusive merch drops
host paid live events
sell affiliate products you actually use
the private audience is the HUB that enables all other monetization
without it you're just hoping platforms and sponsors throw you scraps
with it you control your entire revenue destiny
here's what's actually happening in creator economy right now
the smart creators are realizing platform monetization is a TRAP
youtube takes 45% of ad revenue
twitch takes 50% of subs
sponsors dictate your content
all capped, all controlled by others
but if you own the audience relationship directly through private community
you keep 100% of revenue and control entire experience
this is why every top creator is building: private discords, exclusive newsletters, paid communities, membership sites
they're all doing the same play kai is doing
moving superfans from public platforms to private owned channels
then monetizing those channels with products and access
if you're a creator and you're not building this you're leaving millions on the table bro
your audience is already there, you just need to create the exclusive access layer
announce private account this week, drive traffic to it next week, start monetizing in 30 days
the framework is proven, the execution is just having the balls to do it

The older I get, the more I realize that anything above zero compounds. Showing up consistently matters more than showing up perfectly. Small things become big things. Never allow optimal to get in the way of beneficial.
