The June before my freshman year of college, I received a letter from my soon-to-be coach, Mark Wetmore.
It has some volume guidelines (all in min). It closed with a line I hope I never forget:
"We'll do our talking with our legs."
Seems even more appropriate in a Strava era.
Championship season starts Monday, but until then we will celebrate our last full team practice of the season, with JV’s last meet tomorrow! @DshaXctf@DSHA_Strength
Final preparations for championship season coming up! 40 meter sled pull, 2 min rest 40 meter wickets x 4 sets (wickets progressively get longer from 5’5” to 6’2”). Staple in my workouts over the years! @DshaXctf
Congratulations Jadin!!!

We need to learn how to fail.
When we avoid failure, we inadvertently turn up the sensitivity to our threat alarm. Seeing it as "I am a failure."
When we embrace failure & taking appropriate risks, we turn down the alarm: moving failure from an existential threat to information
High school coaches and athletes:
Remember that when the weather is bitterly cold and you can't train outside, the number one goal is not gaining fitness, but rather staying injury-free.
You must be ready to train - and train hard - when the weather improves.
Be patient.
Good winter training:
• Run by feel
• Finish every run saying, "I could have gone farther" or "I could have gone faster" (or both)
• Sleep enough to support your training
Bad winter training:
• Skip strides
• Skip post-run work
• Forget that mid-April is a long way off
DSHA Cross Country competed yesterday in the Viking Invitational. Sophomore Carlin Nolan took 6th place in JV with a time of 22:15! AWESOME JOB ❤️💛Cross Country competes in conference on Saturday, October 15 at Mitchell Park. COME SUPPORT THE DASHER FAM!!!!
DSHA Cross Country competed in the Bill Greiten Invitational this weekend. JV took second led by sophomores Molly Hambrook (3rd) and Anika Lenci (10th). Varsity took fourth led by freshman Ava Johnsen (4th overall) and junior Olivia Campbell (9th overall). WAY TO GO DASHERS!!!
Cross Country is a great metaphor for life.
From the outside, it looks like an individual sport. A bunch of people running their own race.
But in reality, it's a team sport. The sooner we embrace the team aspect, the better we perform, and the more joy and connection we create.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE DSHA CROSS COUNTRY TEAM!!!! Varsity took third at the Roy Griak Invitational while JV took seventh and fifth at the Mounds View Mustang Invite. WAY TO GO DASHERS❤️💛

When performance matters during intense exercise or running, breathe however you can to get air in/Co2 out.
There's zero performance advantage to nasal breathing. And most likely a detriment (especially as intensity increases).
Don't overcomplicate it.
PLAYERS: Your daily choices demonstrates to your coaches and teammates what matters most to you. What you do is what you believe. Everything else is just talk.
I propose a true USA HS Track championship. Each state is guaranteed 3 entries based on state meet results, or qualifying standard. Similar general format for Worlds and Olympics. Who is in?
