Thank you for reading.
As the blockchain space becomes increasingly multi-chain, the Oasis Network will be at the forefront of moving past siloed transparent L1 ecosystems into a private and interoperable future.
Fundamentally, blockchain technology needs to be simple and streamlined to attract as many people as possible, while also providing the greatest degree of utility and feature-richness. The Oasis Privacy Layer is a massive leap forward towards this goal.
Finally, a gas relayer eliminates the need for end users to acquire ROSE to pay for gas. The whole process is abstracted away into a single click to approve payment on the home network to the gas relayer.
OPL works by having two contracts deployed, one on the home EVM chain and one on Sapphire. A messaging bridge connects the two, and only the parts of a dApp that need privacy features will interact across this bridge with the Sapphire contract.
But we can do better! The Oasis Privacy Layer is a scheme which allows existing dApps on any EVM chain to leverage the privacy features of Sapphire, without users even needing to know they are using it, or even directly paying for gas (ROSE) on the Oasis Network.
Sapphire provides dApps with private smart contract state as well as encrypted transactions. It is a major leap forward for real utility in blockchain applications. It is reasonable to think that *some* people will begin building natively on Sapphire for its unique benefits.
Even the Oasis Network suffered from this. The Emerald transparent EVM ParaTime is basically unused despite its high throughput and low fees; this is 2022, people need a better value proposition at this point. Enter, the Oasis Privacy Layer, powered by Sapphire.
However, it's a tough sell to get devs and users to move all of their activity to a new chain. It's disruptive to platforms that have large amounts of value locked as liquidity, and this has led to the "ghost-chain" phenomenon where more advanced blockchains are hardly used.
Currently nearly all decentralized applications are on transparent EVM chains. With the upcoming release of the Sapphire ParaTime on Oasis Network, developers will be able to build privacy-enabled dApps using the same EVM they are used to, on a scalable low-fee chain.
DECO vs. Oasis - a short thread:
In the last few months there has been a lot of misunderstanding about what Chainlink's DECO does and does not allow for. First, I will explain briefly what DECO does, and then how Oasis is actually complementary, not a competitor to DECO.
