The RSF is welcome in Kenya, but not the Burundian street vendor. A militia that has killed and discriminated on the basis of ones ethnicity and race has the diplomatic red carpet rolled out for its leaders. Yet the scapegoat for a struggling economy is the Burundian street vendor.
Day 42 of #RemindThem
His name is Vincent Ayomo, 28 years old.
Vincent was shot dead by William Ruto's killer militia in Kitengela during a Linda Mwananchi rally.
#RutoMustGo
To @WilliamsRuto: Stop using fellow Africans—whether Burundians, Rwandese or Tanzanians—as the excuse for your failure to create employment opportunities and economic prosperity for Kenya.
You have addressed a gazillion of international and continental conferences where you have pretended to be a pan-Africanist, while in Kenya you are stoking xenophobic rhetoric against our neighbours. That is reprehensible.
An African should be free to visit, settle and work in any African country of their choice, as long as they are not committing any crime.
Leave Africans in Kenya alone!
Ruto is becoming so unpopular that he now appears to be searching for easier people to blame, and Burundians have suddenly become convenient targets for a government that has failed to create enough jobs for Kenyans.
A Burundian doing mjengo, selling coffee, washing cars, working in a hotel or taking a low paying job is not the reason millions of Kenyans are struggling, and pretending otherwise is just lazy politics meant to redirect anger away from the people actually running the country.
Kenyans are everywhere in the world doing exactly the same thing, taking jobs in America, Europe, the Gulf, South Africa, Australia and other countries, yet Ruto now wants Kenyans to behave as if migration only becomes a problem when the immigrant is poor and African.
If Ruto thinks chasing Burundians from small jobs and businesses will suddenly make Kenyans forget taxes, unemployment, corruption, collapsing purchasing power and the cost of living, then his political advisers are badly misreading the mood of the country.
No Kenyan who has spent three years complaining about this government will suddenly wake up and vote for Ruto because a Burundian mason, waiter or shopkeeper has been chased away, because people already know who controls the economy and who has been making the decisions hurting them.
Burundians did not introduce these taxes, Burundians did not create this unemployment crisis, Burundians did not borrow these billions, and Burundians are certainly not the reason Ruto has become deeply unpopular.
Kenya should be very careful with this nonsense, because xenophobia usually begins with politicians telling frustrated citizens that foreigners are stealing their opportunities, then the anger grows until innocent people who came here simply looking for work become targets.
Ruto can campaign against Burundians from now until 2027 if he wants, but xenophobia will not manufacture votes, and blaming poorer Africans will not erase the record Kenyans will actually judge when they enter the polling booth.
A KTN investigation into the August 16 attack on the Linda Mwananchi convoy in Homa Bay has named Governor Gladys Wanga and MP Peter Kaluma, with anonymous sources revealing that the two held a night meeting where Wanga claimed support "from above" and ordered youths to block roads and stop the convoy by force.
The recruits were reportedly paid Ksh 500 each, armed and spent hours until dawn on the streets, while local leader Abdi Kassim is said to have assured them police would not intervene in the ambush that later left multiple people dead, dozens injured, media crews assaulted and multiple vehicles set ablaze.
An MP can order people to “disappear” and still walk free.
A citizen says “one term” and suddenly the law remembers its job.

The masked guy is Ronaldo Chemosit. He was one of the DCI officers from OSU who went and abducted Albert Ojwang from Kasipul Constituency.
Albert Ojwang was brutally beaten by them before even reaching Central Police Station.
He is the guy who told Standard journalists, Alex Kiprotich, “Utaona mambo ya ajabu sana,” when they were abducting him.
Were it not for the dashcam, Alex Kiprotich’s story ingekuwa tofauti saa hii.
These people are brutal.
(OSU) Operations Support Unit is a police unit that was formed in 2022, immediately after Ruto was sworn in.
Their main function is to deal with government critics, and they take orders from Murkomen, DCI Director Amin, and Eliud Lagat.
