@FergieALeigh@USAOWTC When something becomes as important to our culture as rapidly as video games have, I think it’s necessary for everyone to have at least some knowledge of the subject.
@jacobvlynn All of the individual pieces that make up a video game, on there own, would be considered art. So why is it still so controversial to add video games to mainstream artistic dialogue?
@SloaneBrandi @USAOWTC I don’t think it was just because he was family. She wasn’t only helping him to save herself. I think, to some extent, she genuinely cared for him and wanted him to be better.
@KorbynPeebles@USAOWTC The two aren’t mutually exclusive, so I think it was a little bit of both. He was a product of his time, for sure, but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t have been a better person either.
@AllieGo33120317 I think it's less that they had different perspectives, and more that they were either lying to try to save themselves, or that they had built up truths in their heads that they wanted to believe.
@HutchWtiii Perhaps everyone is lying. Or maybe some of them are telling what they sincerely believe to be the truth. What does the story say about human nature I wonder?
@jacobvlynn That's interesting. I think that's, to some extent, what Akutagawa was getting at. Perhaps some of the characters created truths that they wanted to believe.
The relationship between Rufus and Dana was very compelling. Even though he treated her horribly, and she was more or less forced to save his life, I still felt that, in some ways, she genuinely cared about him. It’s a shame he wasn’t a better person. #WTCKin2
I like how Butler uses time travel as a way to explore and compare race relations in the 1800s and 1970s. I also think the relationship between Dana and Rufus is interesting, in that she is basically being forced to save him in order to survive. #WTCKin1
I particularly liked the part that stated that a civilization that ignores it’s problems is doomed to fall apart. It’s saddening because I think, to some extent, that ignoring one’s problems when one feels overwhelmed is a part of human nature. #WTCCes
It’s startling how accurate Keynes’ predictions were for the future regarding technological unemployment, progress, etc. It seems like his outlook for the future then was a lot more positive than our outlook for the future is today as well. #WTCKeynes
